Today Ruby headed off to her first day of extended school year (aka summer school). This year she is participating in a program for blind students only. I’m beyond excited for her to be in this program, but anxious for her to be back home. Changes in routine can be challenging for both of us. My hope is that being around blind peers who use white canes will encourage Ruby to start using one herself. Currently she’s using an alternative mobility device (the white pvc pusher in the photo), which helps teach her the skills of using a cane, but is easier to maneuver. She has resisted using a cane in the past, but it would be so helpful for her everyday life. #SummerSchool #ExtendedSchoolYear #SpecialEducation #WhiteCane #Blind #VisuallyImpaired #Disability #DisabilityIsNotInability #DisabilityAwareness #RareGemRuby
I’ve seen a lot of beautiful sights in my life, but I have to say that this view in Yosemite is one of my favorites. As Ruby and I sat here overlooking half dome and the many wonders of this park, I thought about how much I wish Ruby could see it, too. It broke my heart that her eyes could not take in the gorgeousness of it all. But I believe that Ruby experiences the wonders of the world in a different way that’s just amazing as us sighted folks do. She can feel the energy of a space and is highly tuned in to everything that’s happening around her: the breeze in her hair, the scents wafting through the air, the sounds most of us don’t hear, the feeling of a waterfall mist on her face, the way the ground feels beneath her feet, the accents and languages of the travelers around us. Through Ruby, I have learned to see the world in a different way as well and I am ever so grateful to her. ♥️ #loveisblind #anewperspective #travelingwithdisabilities #disabilityisnotinability #disability #disabilityawareness #blind #visuallyimpaired #yosemite #strommesyndrome #raregemruby

It’s high time that technology was used to help those who have suffered a loss in senses. Blind people will now be able to see photos thanks to a 3D camera designed by Israeli graduate Oren Geva.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The 2C3D camera uses 3D pixels to create 3D photos and videos. Once the photo has been taken, the pixels move to create a physical kind of image that can be felt with the user’s hands . If they like what they feel, they can save the photo to be used at any time in the future.

Bazen Ada ile yürüyüş yaparken insanlar Ada'ya acıyarak bakıyorlar bunu onların yüz ifadelerinden kolayca anlayabiliyorum. Bazen soru soranlarda oluyor. Her seferinde ağlıyordum.
