I knew my ex-husband before we started dating. I grew up with him from the time I was maybe 12 or 13. We went to school together. He was a year ahead of me. We weren't friends. In fact I actually couldn't stand him. first instints, should have listened to my gut!!!! We met up years after highschool and he swept me off my feet and the rest as they say is history. It's still hard for me to come to terms with the fact that I spent 17 years married to a man that I no longer speak to. I built a life, a family with a man and I am left to wonder if any of it was real? I could spend the rest of my life torturing myself wondering if it was real, but in the end does it matter? What I am left with is the same. Broken dreams. Broken heart, broken family. Kids without their father. Victims of domestic violence, just another statistic. Kids growing up in poverty out of spite from their father refusing to pay child support. I am no one special. My story is just one of countless. It happens all over the world. Same story, different faces, cultures, races, economic backgrounds but the stories they're all the same. What starts out as a fairytale ends up as the worst nightmare leaving behind a trail of victims/survivors behind. And we are not justs abused by our abuser but by the systems set in place to "help" us. We are not helpless though. Our voices are our power. Education, awareness and standing strong together. LaTarica Stripling, 32, of Memphis, Tennessee lost her life on April 25, 2019 when she was shot and killed by her estranged husband. . LaTarica leaves behind three children; a 14-year-old son, 8-year-old daughter and 3-year-old girl. Her two daughters were in the car with her when she was killed. Memphis Police have issued a warrant for LaTarica’s husband of three years, Michael McKinnie, for first degree murder. McKinnie and LaTarica have one child together, the three year old daughter. He is still on the run. . LaTarica’s family says the couple had problems in the past and that she left him and “she was doing all she could to get away from him.” According to Shelby County Court documents, McKinnie was arrested for aggravated assault in 2017. LaTarica told police McKinnie strangled her until she passed out and said "I told you I was going to kill you today." . Her family says they will always remember LaTarica as a successful entrepreneur and a loving mother. She owned a hair salon and a boutique. Her candlelight vigil was this evening and she will be laid to rest on Saturday. When I was 15 I fell for a 21 year old man. A few months in I ended up pregnant. He used to get angry and punch a wall, or break a lamp. Better the wall than me I used to tell myself. A few years in, the physical abuse started, strangulation, hair pulling shoving against the wall and throwing things at me. I always forgave him. I thought he would change. Sadly he didn't. It just got worse. He threw a computer at me and when it missed and hit our baby, he got even more angry because "I made him do it" and he started punching me in my face back and forth, back and forth.t I forgave him. Told everyone I fell down the stairs. So cliche right? I thought we were making progress. But we weren't. It got worse and worse, and after tasting my own blood to the point of choking on it, I started to realize that it wasn't going to change. I left him. He followed. He wanted to see the girls so I let him. NO ONE DESERVES THIS. And there is not enough love in the world that can justify a man hitting you. Demetria Howard, 23, of St. Louis, Missouri was found shot multiple times on Sunday afternoon when police visited her home to conduct a welfare check. She was the mother of two young children. Now authorities have arrested 24-year-old Perry Green, the father of Demetria’s children. He confessed to the murder. Isis Williams, 24, of Philadelphia was murdered by the father of her newborn early Friday morning. Police believe Tyrese Lynch, 33, shot Isis in the head with her five-day-old daughter in a crib just steps away. . Isis, who was the mother of three daughters, was on the phone with her mother when the shots were fired. Relatives said the relationship between Isis and Lynch was abusive. Her family said, “she tried leaving him multiples times as she slept in her car or at a family member’s house from time to time. She had recently went back to him while giving birth to her 3rd daughter on December 9th. She had been discharged from the hospital 2 days later. She could only spend 5 days with her daughter before she was brutally killed by her baby’s father.” . Investigators said there were signs of a struggle in the home, furniture was overturned, but the baby was not injured. Neighbors said they heard an argument before Isis was shot. "He was calling her derogatory names," said neighbor Melvina Hall. "It was very loud." . Lynch is on the run and should be considered armed and dangerous. .
