I'm always amazed at how much everything GROWS in the last week of May. When we leave for Half Term in Cornwall, it's Spring. But when we come back, the garden is a tumbling riot of roses, honeysuckle and catmint. I've been out there today cutting vases and buckets-full of flowers. Isn't it the idea of filling a bucket full of flowers amazing? Swipe left and you'll see my Sweet William haul. These are my current cutting garden stars. A total no-show last year - I didn't realise they were biennials! - they've more than made up for it, forming a 3 foot high bank of pinks, crimsons and whites. And it looks like they will continue flowering for weeks. I love how their velvety colours look next to the dusty pink of the Princess Alexandra of Kent roses. The lacy white contrast is provided by Orlaya Grandiflora. I had a go at a little bit of table styling myself yesterday morning. I mean, this is how I breakfast every day, of course . I’m a little bit gutted because I bought Foxgloves and Lupins for my raised flower beds that I wanted to bloom this year but I’ve been informed that I’ve probably bought the perennials to bloom next year. I’m absolutely gutted, I mean - they were the same price! WHY would I buy them for next year? I know it’s a first world problem but... I still have so much to learn . . This beautiful furniture set was gifted from @rattandirectltd - it’s the rectangle table Cambridge set in grey. Xx

Not a bad place to call home...

You can never understand one language until you understand at least two. ‒ Geoffrey Willans ↠ How well do you know your native language? Before I started learning my first foreign language I barely knew any grammar terms let alone how to correctly identify an adverb! Since then my passion and interest in languages continues to grow with endless curiosity. ↠ My curiosity has led me to down all sorts of random paths. For example, I learned why the letter ‘c’ in English is sometimes pronounced like a ‘k’ and other times like an ‘s’ and the rule that applies to them. Hint: a ‘c’ before a, o, u is pronounced like a ‘k’ eg, cat, coat, cucumber. When ‘c’ is preceded by e or i, it’s pronounced like an ‘s’ eg. centre, city. ↠ Anyone can learn a language, including you. I don’t have a special gene or knack for it and my memory is terrible. I have to revise things, repeat, and implement new information multiple time before it sticks. The only reason why I’m able to learn a language is because I’ve found a way to enjoy the journey. This makes all the difference. I’ve found the fun in learning language that words for me. Remember what Mary Poppins said? “In every job that must be done there is an element of fun, you find the fun, then snap, the job’s a game!”. ↠ Now, I definitely don’t consider learning a language a job, but it can be super challenging. For me, “the game”, or enjoyment I’ve found is discovering the similarities between languages, the etymology of words and how discovering how languages evolved.
