Black, Bisexual, and Beautiful •Ready for another long caption? Let's dive right in! • Today someone asked me if I had a coming out story and what it story was. It made me start think: I really only "came out" intentionally to three people. Everyone else just realized I was queer passively, and in the same subtle way that straight people confirm that they are heterosexual. See, the classic narrative of queerness centers around primarily white cisgender homosexuals. It goes that gay people know that they're gay since birth, that they struggle and hide it to themselves, until one day they have the courage to sit down with their parents, loved ones, or close friends and have the official "I'm gay" talk. Which is absolutely true for some queer people! However, something that I think we forget to take into consideration is that sexuality is fluid, complex, and it can change constantly. For myself personally, I didn't know since early childhood that I was queer. I didn't even start to develope an attraction to other genders until I was almost out of high school. I think that in some ways, my sexuality was stunted. The normal and healthy exploration of sexuality that het kids start at a young age for me was delayed. The fact that I was bisexual, but knew I was sexually and emotionally attracted to men, meant that I didn't fit that "lesbian narrative". I was sure I couldn't like girls because everyone knows that womxn/femmes who like other womxn/femmes know from a young age. Continued in the comments... It was a decision I agonized over for months because I love my work. Today I wrote to all my loves past and present from the beginning of my open journey. I wrote to the 4 that have affected me deeply with how they've shown up for me. I even went into detail with one I'm not in touch with about how their love healed and grew me and therefore shows up in another form of love in my present life. I either shared a fantasy or memory, a photo, those loving expressions about how my journey with them grew me and wished them a Happy impending New Year. I'm embodying heart openness as more as an action which means my work is getting done --- Shutting doors is not me anymore. Shutting doors is based in fear, an illusion to ESCAPE pain that only ironically CREATES pain. I've done this so many times like a fucking child. Indeed an inner child at the helm of my life, no more! More importantly, I'd be a fraction of my former self without my life partner and had I not had these growth and heart expansive experiences birthed by freedom and trust. @nsa_open_love Also, closing doors to abuse is OK.
