Uphill running! What do you think of it? It’s taken me a long time to appreciate it and it’s constant work in progress. My whole life until recently I have lived at sea level in flat places where even a road bump was a disturbing obstacle on a run! . Any decent hills I have had to travel for, and I have done so that I could do more interesting races and expand my running horizons. Now I am liking hills more and more. I have come to realise that you can’t fight the hill, you have to work with it, in your mind and with your body. This one in Tenerife is one of my all-time favourites. You can make it almost as long as you wish but from where I start it goes on for 8km at a nice runnable gradient, starting at 1980m of elevation and finishing at around 2350m. Taking the seat of the teacher was one of the most confronting AND best things I ever did. It is something I resisted for a very long time, spending the first of my many years in the yoga world on the business side- Managing other teachers careers, running studios and a retreat business. . Then one day one of my teachers came into my office, got in my face, and said, “You are hiding behind this desk, What are you so afraid of”?! His words stung me to the core and in that moment I realized I was hiding. It was safe for me to be behind the desk, I knew how to do that, I was good at it, and it made sense. Teaching yoga on the other hand, felt anything but safe. The practice of yoga cracked me open, connected me to my body, heart, spirit and femininity. Which left me feeling vulnerable and exposed. This practice completely transformed my life - Now, who was I to be sharing it Especially living in Venice, California and sitting at the helm of one of the most influential yoga studios in the world with many of the very teachers that have shaped yoga in the west. Who was I to be sharing it?! . It actually took a teacher not showing up one day leaving 25 plus students just waiting in the room. I had 2 choices: 1- send everyone home with a comp pass OR 2- step out from behind the desk and teach the class myself. I chose the latter & the rest is history ;-) . I’m a big fan of fake it til you make it. When I arrived to Bali I was depressed, struggling with the remnants of my eating disorder, and felt unhealthy and uncomfortable in my own skin. So I joined @odysseymvmt and did circuit fitness every day. I ate nourishing food instead of brownies for lunch. I talked to people instead of hiding. I also said yes to modeling gigs. I pretended I felt more beautiful and confident than I truly did, and eventually I actually FELT it. Two months later, I don’t look much different, but I feel like a badass and that’s really all that matters. (Thanks to @baliefs.sarongs and @elena_ignatochkina for helping me be a rockstar )

Some friends think I look like Lara Croft in this picture. That makes me feel really honored because her character is my favourite Halloween costume. For a while when I was younger I used to use her like an alter ego when I needed to be brave. Pretending to be her made me feel I could be strong and fearless too. I've been working on changing my relationship with fear over the last year. I've learned that as long as we're growing and expanding fear will never go away. Every time we push a new boundary, it will be there to be faced and overcome. As often as I can I'm going towards it and welcoming it because the more often we do the easier it gets. Took a lil solo day trip outside of #medellincolombia. The most uncomfortable part of the day was ordering lunch. Even after getting lost a couple times. . I don’t speak Spanish (sadly) and am not yet familiar with the currency here (i get the exchange rate, but the bills are so confusing). . ‍♀️At lunch I ordered “the sides” thinking it was their local dish and the waiter kept trying to clarify which one (by asking macaroni? macaroni? lol). I did use google translate to decode the words I couldn’t figure out and all the things sounded good, so I thought it was one thing together ‍♀️. Eventually after going in circles because I had no clue what I was saying I gave up and ordered enchiladas. . I tried getting box for my leftovers and he took my food (I figured he was boxing it), but he never brought it back ‍♀️ . Then with the bill it was confusing, but I won’t go further lol. At the end of the day I explored and I got food.
