Da motivet ble speilet ble det med ett endret fra å være salt sjø til et skogstjern. The main factors are temperature and humidity. Long warm, sunny days and cool, but not frosty nights, lead to emergence of the brightest autumn coloring. However with the onset of cold weather the vessels feeding cages of leaves are gradually blocked, – and sugar cease to arrive to them. Moisture in the soil also affects autumn colors. As well as weather, it strongly changes year by year. The uncountable number of combinations which are possible at a combination of these factors is led to the fact that two autumn seasons during which leaves will resemble at each other are absent. Late approach of spring or a strong summer heat can cause a delay of emergence of autumn coloring for several weeks.
