Happy 80th Birthday... to Peter S. Beagle! . . Though I've only recently (within the last 10 years or so), discovered his work *other* than The Last Unicorn ... I've come to appreciate an treasure his voice in the fantasy genre. I've begun to look forward to anything new that he publishes... . . Something about wolves lends itself naturally to fantasy stories. The most notable is probably the #direwolves of #housestark in #gameofthrones - I also enjoyed (although this is not fantasy) #TheCallOfTheWild - perhaps it’s the unique howl, the intrigue of a quiet and intelligent predator, or perhaps the somewhat kindred link some people feel with wolves. This painting of the mighty #Achilles by @stuharrington reminds me of the people of #Boralia - one of the island countries in my story. The #Boralians are a warrior race loosely inspired by the people of #ancientGreece - although they are in a somewhat precarious position as book one commences, as hand-to-hand supremacy is of diminishing value in a world of airships. Just a thought, but I think writers need to be careful making children central to the story. My initial spoiler free thoughts on #thelongnight and #thebattleofwinterfell - it was a lot of fun, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and I felt the ending validated a lot of a character’s arc over the story. Cons were that it was hard to make out what was happening and too much #deusexmachina - but otherwise I loved the episode.
