We saw many of you today (Sundays are starting to get so busy!) and we are happy to have been able to high five you for all the good you do for your fuzzbutts! Pit bull and Rottie mommas, we are feelin' ya the most these days ✊️Thank you for standing up for your breeds and being their voices, these puppers need you now more than ever FUN FACT ALERT! At Mindful Mutts, we care a heck of a lot more about the personality of a dog when we meet them than we do about breed. Why you may ask? Because how does it make sense to decide that a dog isn't right for our crew based on their physical appearance?! In our world, that really doesn't make a lot of sense. If your dog can play nice, and you're willing to work with our Low-Stress Handling Certified philosophy and perhaps with a trainer we recommend... then why shouldn't your blocky headed mutt be welcome here? 3️⃣ years ago I quit working at other dog daycares (after witnessing countless acts of physical and emotional harm towards animals) and officially registered “Mindful Mutts” as a business that same day. We’ve been advocating for better standards of care in dog daycares and for positive science-based training and handling ever since! Our work here... is not even close to done, and we have a long road ahead of us but there are a lot of awesome things in the works over the next couple of years... and a to-do list that we’ve barely made a dent in just yet. Thank you to all the wicked awesome positive trainers, veterinary clinics and like-minded pet sitting companies for supporting us and recognizing the hard work our staff put in to create the most fear free environment(s) we can come up with for fuzzbutts... since so many of our clients come as referrals from YOU we can say with confidence that we couldn’t have made it this far without ya!!! And to the community of New West and to our clients ... we thank you too of course! You allow us to be vocal about things that matter to us about animals(and you vote for us in all the things !!!) Furrriends- I’ve been MIA for a few days because I’ve been at the @bcspca Animal Behaviour Science Symposium with a couple hundred other like-minded professionals (I’ve been trying to keep you in the loop via Instagram stories!) I can’t wait to implement some of the new things I’ve learned after a lot of careful thinking... @magnoliadogtraining was there with me and our fabulous friend Renee from @bravodogtraining was even a presenter this year! She was alongside so many other super cool, mega knowledgeable trainers and veterinarians that taught us all sorts of important info about dogs and cats (and rats!) Sad that it’s over, but so SO glad to be back with a newly refreshed outlook on this passion of mine. Dog daycare CAN be better, and SHOULD be better. Now that I know better, we can do better. Please make sure your dog walkers, dog trainers and dog daycare are doing the same... until we become a regulated industry it’s buyer beware out there... and it’s pretty scary to think of what that means for the welfare of companion animals... don’t you think? -Stefania #✌️❤️ #mindfulmutts
