I drew this when Milly Cyrus had ripped off @thesweetfeminist an indie artist. It happens all too much, and is the saddest thing about being an artist online. Big huge companies steal because they have a big huge machine behind them. So while we are on the topic, I thought I would share some legal copyright info for all you young excited artists who are figuring this all out like me. . 1. In the uk everything you make is legally your own copyright, no you don’t need any papers, everything you make is yours. Having a timeline of your work on the enternet can be helpful when clarifying this to potential theif. 2. If you notice your work is stolen and a business is making money by reproducing it, write a ceased and desist letter, asking for the work to be taken down and to be paid for the licensing of said piece. 3. Use your audience, Ive only ever seen actual change happen and business listen when loads of people are commenting on their site. The enternet is powerful use it. (If you don’t have an audience, reach out to people who do, we love sticking up for each other)‍♀️ . When I was first starting out I had a company in India steal my work and reproduce it. We were unable to locate a business address and nothing happened. I let it knock my confidence and felt like ‘well what is the point if this, is going to happen. ‘ The best thing I did in the situation is I made more work and worked through it. Also some advice I got from the @theaoi was to focus on personal projects that couldn’t be easily taken out of context, such as my stolen greeting card. And that’s what motived me to write a book and spend more time on bigger niche projects. . If I’ve missed anything please leave it in the comments below. . Go forth and make great work. Ofcorse we shouldn’t accept this as okay, but it is part of the job. About a year ago, I organized my first ever exhibition in Copenhagen. I spent three weeks to paint a series of colorful paintings which I wanted to disposed as panels to show my engagement as an artist. My idea was to make a colorful and joyful demonstration. I did something out of my comfort zone, I didn’t know how many people will come and join the event and Iwas not sure if I did something cool enough to be looked at... I just did it because I was passionated and I knew deep down I had to do it so people will notice my art and my engagement off line. I wanted to create a connection with people and talk one to one with an audience. I think as an artist it’s important to be humble and feel gratitude for those who support and engage with the art. So I want to thank you for being part of the process here. In about a year my life has changed not by miracle but with lots of hard work and insecurities. After I got my master in product design in France I didn’t know what kind of artist I will become, I searched myself for five years, I traveled, I failed, I cried, I pushed myself and did all again. And even if today things are great I am still in process. To be an artist you need to be innovative, bring your own story to the visuals. It’s not because something works that means you have to copy to be also successful. You have to be true to yourself and to the people who surround you. ✌
