We have been insulted and trolled for our pro-choice posts. We have had followers and our audience celebrate us too, share our posts and get in touch about what our posts mean to them.
What we are not discussing enough though is the women there, the women of Alabama so this is a call-to-action. There is still hope and we strongly believe that here, one honest voice can be louder than a crowd so keep fighting the fight, share your stories, you are more powerful than you think. Our hearts are with your hearts, we will carry you with us until there is change. We will not give up Alabama, we are here for you.
Only love, Scarlett (CEO, founder Smart Girl Tribe)
Me on a daily basis: sure, why NOT? ♀️
I recently found out that I was chosen out of 60 applicants for one of six speaker positions at SPARK Portland 2019 Summit! Excited? YES! Nervous? OMG YES.
I've never spoken on stage before, let alone in front of hundreds of people who are paying to be there! But I wrote "land my first speaking gig" as item 11 on my "25 by 25" checklist on my 25th birthday in May, and I started saying "why not?" to any opportunity that would get me closer to that goal.
When I submitted my talk for SPARK, I fully let go of the outcome - it wasn't about whether or not I was chosen for THIS stage, because I knew my stage would come in my own time. It was simply about showing up for my goal and saying "why not me?" And as I was writing my speaker bio for the website (see below), I had one of those surreal moments where I didn't even recognize who I was on paper. Like, who am I to be or have done any of these things?
& , & . - , 500 , - , , , . , , ’ , .
And I realized that all of these things only happened, because the "why not me?" question has persisted and led me to show up - - for things that I wasn't the obvious choice for, had no experience in, or didn't feel ready to do.
So my question I want you to think on today, is:
Message me for tickets to #SparkPortland2019 ❤️
#DovePartner I got sick of seeing the same images of wellness and beauty being shown over and over, and created a platform to help broaden that narrative. While it is a start, there is still a lot more work to do. I’m teaming up with @Dove to keep the conversation going as part of Project #ShowUs. 70% of women don’t feel represented in the media and advertising they see, perpetuating a narrow definition of beauty. Thanks to @Dove, @Girlgaze and @Gettyimages Project #ShowUs will be the first publicly accessible photo library to shatter beauty stereotypes around the world. We had so much fun talking about podcast monetization at @houseofpod tonight! Unfortunately the audio wasn’t able to be recorded but we had a blast and are always excited to do any in-person events or panels to remind us WHY we love this passion project so much! #joyandclaire #houseofpod #denverpodcasts #femalepodcasts
When creatives who are new in their business ask for tips or advice, this is what I tell them... Get rid of ego and just work on your craft.
When I started, my insecurities didn’t allow me the space to make mistakes and my ego wasted energy on hurt feelings if people weren’t IN LOVE with my work.
It takes confidence to both take risks and receive critique. I always say, don’t be married to your first draft cause you’ll always end up with a heartbreak. Always be open to an edit.
I think that ego is the death of creating. When hearing people talk about your work, if you believe all the good, you also have to believe all the bad...so live somewhere in the middle, where you’re confident in the work you do but always knowing you could do better.
I’m so lucky to do what I do...but trust me it’s ONLY come by the kindness and critiques of others. As an artist, you make it or break it on the opinions of others...so stand tall in your character. And be flexible with everything else.
Behind all the pictures, has been more work in my own heart than an fstop or ISO.
So cheers to you, you’ve got this. It’s fun, hard, and so worth it all. : @jasminestar
