A friend suggested that I paint a group of studies as a series. Because I don’t really think of these sketches as complete paintings, the idea didn’t interest me. But, I wondered what a series would even look like. What would tie them together? The more I thought about it, the more brilliant I thought the idea was. I decided to try to paint the same moment in a break on different days to study how different conditions (wind, sky, wave size and period) would effect the same moment on a similar wave. Almost try to work on the same painting on different days and learn how that same subject changes. I guess Monet thought of it first :/ One is on a rainy day - you can probably see which sketch. Altogether they gave me so much insight. Sunday Funday (fact day)!! We’re finishing off the week with a lesson on these lovely flower-shaped creatures called Orange Sheath Tunicates. We often find colonies of these sea squirts growing on our Oyster Research Stations (ORS). Like oysters, they are filter feeders, and need a hard substrate to grow. Fun fact: tunicates belong to the phylum Chordata, which includes fish, birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. For this reason, they are more closely related to us than any other invertebrate! .
