‍♂️FLEXIBLE TEACHING X PRACTISE WHAT YOU PREACH‍♂️ Another case of practise what you preach! I went on a 5 day course with some legendary teachers, to understand more about Project Based Learning, immersive classrooms and flexible learning. One of the many things we took away from this experience was, how do we expect students to be flexible if we aren’t? This resulted in getting rid of our teacher desks and ordering standing pods on wheels One of the teachers, who went on the course, organised and ordered these through @bfxfurniture ... he even arranged a colour choice All coloured drawers lock and the grey strip is actually a pull out desk, so I can sit and work if that’s what I feel like doing! SUPER GRATEFUL!

This picture perfectly sums up how flexible seating has changed my classroom for the better. By this point, the kids know my expectations for #flexibleseating and are comfortable enough with our room and me that they begin using the options in the most unconventional ways! I think back to the beginning of a year and laugh at the thought of telling a kid they have to sit like this! (I dont for the record, they practice with lap desks on a rug with a pillow) Today, everywhere I turned, good choices were naturally being made in the moment! Kids were using lap desks at stools, moving wobble stools half way across the room to fit a larger group project, pulling up crate seats to get a better view of a hidden task card, and even building a pillow wall to block out distractions so they could read to themselves Students making choices for themselves in the moment depending on what they're learning and how they're learning it. This is why I spend 21 days in complete control of where the kids go and why I spend so many precious fall minutes clearly modeling acceptable and unacceptable behavior when it comes to flexible seating. There seems to be a lot of debate these days around this topic of flexible seating; the pros, cons, expenses, behaviors, but regardless of money spent or opinion of people around me, I cant imagine our classroom any other way. Watching little people discover for themselves how they learn and where they do their best work is just as rewarding & equally important as watching them figure out a new math concept for the first time. ZEN REST X FLEXIBLE LEARNING I’m literally laughing so much here - who knew that you could sit on a chair, or on the floor, and have an immediate work space like this? ☝ The Zen Rest is literally a ‘Z’ formation, for those of you who are struggling to get your head around the concept I’m sitting on a base, which looks very similar to the top. SWIPE to see what I’m talking about. These are going to be great for literacy rotations and pop up stations in the classroom They are super sturdy and have a non slip surface.

This is why I’m here. Super proud teaching moment today. Today, @miss.laura.the.explorer and I trialled a ‘mobile school’, where we took learning out into community! It was a huuuuuge success and we got 25 kids whom wouldn’t have come to school at all had this not been an option today. After coming to the basketball court, all of these students eventually made it to school, which is a huge achievement in itself. I love remote teaching and having the opportunity to try flexible and new ways to teach! Super keen to see where this can go! Huge shoutout to our colleagues for looking after our kids so we could try this! ❤️

Kind of a geek moment... but I love my new gold wireless presentation clicker! I can’t wait to use it in class! It seriously makes walking around the class during whole group activities so much easier!!! I don’t know about you, but I always hate feeling tied to the front of the class! #teachersloveamazon
