Life changing! Life changing is what this check-in process, created by @makingastatementinsped is! I introduced the poster on Monday and be have been doing check-ins each morning and during the day ever since. It is crucial to go through the talking points Erin lays out in the product. Make sure you are open and honest with your kiddos about how you struggle on days and have to reach out to talk with friends when you do. It’s important to create a safe space and a no judgement zone. I have already have kiddos putting their post-its on and asking to have a check in with me. The check-in process is so simple, yet it could be the difference maker for a lot of the kiddos who need someone to notice and need someone to reach out. Teaching is so much more than the lesson plan and we HAVE to be present in our students’ lives. There is a lower elementary version of this too. I would 1000% recommend starting this in your rooms ASAP! Have conversations, be open, be intentional. Autism Acceptance Day! Although we should be aware and accept everyday, April is the month to be super intentional about having conversations with our kiddos about what Autism is and how to show care for those with Autism. Today we read the book, “The Girl Who Thought in Pictures” and watched a video of a teen with Asperger’s explaining Autism from the his view point. The most valuable thing you can do with your kiddos is the conversations. Talk about things, be open, and answer their questions. State testing season is upon us & we all know how boring test prep can be These basketball Easter baskets and balls from @dollartree were perfect for spicing up our review! I printed out the sample questions from the SBAC website and put them around the classroom task card style. Students picked a partner and solved the questions together, checked their answer one at a time with me, got 1 point for every right question & got a chance to earn extra points by shooting a ball into whatever basket they wanted to. I love how the extra points make it more equitable for all students to have a chance to win! I have more details saved on my “test prep” highlights if you want to know more specifics.
