So happy to be out on the trails lately ‍♀️(especially in the comfort of summer lux!)! I came to the realization this weekend, while stomping through slushy spring snow somewhere over 10,000 feet, that I’ve been allowing the crappy hand we’ve been dealt lately to turn me into an angry, cynical old lady, pissed off about the unfairness of the world. Crap realtors crap moving jobs crap cancer crap death crap crap crap. . That’s not who I want to be. I believe that attitude is a choice. So it was a bit startling to see the reflection of what I’ve been choosing, unfair or not, as I made my way up the mountain. . I don’t want to be defined by what I’ve overcome, and sure, those things are plenty. But I’d rather be defined by what I’ve done, the people I’ve helped, the laughter I’ve created, the battles I’ve won. . So I’m making an effort to choose differently, for no other reason than: I don’t want to end up bitter and disappointed, destroyed by the world. This is life. It’s not fair, it’s not easy, I don’t get to decide a lot of things. But I get to choose what I put in my mouth, into my mind, the people I spend my time with, moving my body, feeding my soul. I choose that. I choose joy. ☺️

A stroll down memory lane + a thank you... It's been about a year since I started developing this account and my brand as an athlete. As someone not accustomed to much public sharing, I expected this to turn out much differently. I certainly didn't anticipate such positive reception and how cool it would be to open dialogue with some of you about my training and racing. It has also opened channels to form meaningful partnerships with companies that I genuinely trust and support. My 4th marathon is complete with a time of 3:35:04! 7 minute and 50 second PR. Sadly, not a Boston qualifying time. This was a good day. The weather was great. I felt great. But I came up a little short. I am satisfied, because I know I gave it everything I had today. I have until September to qualify for Boston 2020, and my @wahoorun team and I will be running a marathon in July in Washington state that I know we will all kill. Thank you to everyone who came out to support me. I love you all so much. And huge shout out to @lv_pratt for handing me my drinks on the course and running miles 19 - 25.5 with me. I’ve been a little lost since Boston - all over the place mentally and really unsure about a lot when it comes to running. However, racing really lights a fire in me. I love the atmosphere of it and enjoy being around people who love to run like I do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I saw something on Twitter recently (and I forget who said it so I’m sorry for not crediting them) about how if you knew you would never PR again - would you still run? I feel a little like that right now. I worked so hard for a marathon PR, only to fall very very far off of my goal. What if I never PR again? Is running something I’d still want to keep doing? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My answer to that is yes - absolutely I would still run. I’d still race. I’d still give it my best, because I can and I’m lucky to be able to do so. My goal for my Berlin training cycle is to look at every single run as something I get to do, not something I have to do. If that leads to a PR, it’s great. A year ago, I was running 50 mile weeks and was in probably the best running shape of my life. I was ignoring ankle pain, but whatever my runs were going well. Fast forward a year. I think I’ve probably only run one or two 50 mile months so far. I am focusing solely on rehabbing my Achilles (it seems to be improving, albeit slowly) and am building mileage slowly. Instead of looking back and being frustrated, I’m excited. I’m getting stronger through regular @solidcore classes and I think about what I could do once I’m stronger overall and no longer have a bum Achilles and that is exciting. There is no point in lamenting what used to be. Instead, focus on where you are today and where you can be tomorrow. I know my best races are still ahead of me and that’s motivating and exciting.
