'It’s very hard to care for my mum. Watching her fade away breaks my heart. I get frustrated with the whole situation, but I have to tell myself that it’s not her fault and if I’m feeling like this what must she feel like? We have good days where she’s laughing and joking - they make it all worthwhile. As long as I can, I will care for my mum.’ . ‘Where did the idea for the doll and moses basket come from? Mum kept asking where the babies were, and kept cuddling one of my daughter's teddy bears, so I thought I'd try her with a doll and see how she reacts. Today we’re wishing a very happy 90th birthday to Bob, who’s living with dementia! Bob’s granddaughter Brooke wrote in to share this brilliant photo, and to give Bob a heartfelt tribute for the big day: ‘Grandad Bob is the heart of our family. He has been married to his wife Ellen for 69 years, and we all love him lots! He gave us our family motto: “In our family we like smiley faces" and he definitely always has one! Hannah and her Grandad Desy have always been close, but after his Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis, she found it hard to care for him with her young family. To make it easier on them both, she found a job at the same care home where Desy lived, so she could stay close and support him. She continues to visit most days with her family in tow. I am still far from okay. I like to pretend that I am. Mainly because I don't like making other people uncomfortable. I've survived other traumas in my life and people have seen me make comeback after comeback. But this is different. This one is taking time. But instead of fighting it, I embrace that it's okay to not be okay. I know, one day, I'll get there. And for any of you out there hurting, know it's okay to be where you are. If I've learned anything, the only constant in life is change. All my love.
