This picture of my mom and I today pretty much sums up why we raise money every year for Alzheimer's. My Mom was a part of Urban Timber in the early days and I would put her sanding and finishing skills up against anyone. She was diagnosed just about 10 years ago and has become a former shell of herself. Our "Wood to Remember" fund keeps the dream alive of one day finding a cure. To those who have a mom ill or that has past I'm thinking of you today. To everyone else that has a healthy beautiful mother, cherish your time with her today life can change in a moment's notice.

We all know the feeling right?! ^ ^ Our brains are wired to think negatively as this serves to protect us. Pessimism has evolved with us over time. Thousands of years ago, the optimist who chose to go to the berry tree when there was a tiger lurking was outlived by the pessimist who chose to stay put in fear of the tiger eating him. Fear protected him! ^ ^ When we STOP and notice ourselves jumping to conclusions, we can then break the cycle of our negative thought pattern and challenge ourselves. ^ ^ Ask yourself, where is the evidence that what I am thinking is true? ^ ^ ^ @yung_pueblo you wise soul!

When we see it from this perspective, we place ourselves in a much better position to remain empathetic and respond in a much more positive way

The morning of my D&C I had to be at the hospital by 7am sharp. Getting a sitter that early was too tricky, so I asked my dad. I trust he probably tried his very best to fill my mom in on what was happening with me but as soon as she entered my house, she forgot. This is how the disease works. She was obviously annoyed & instead of getting an embrace when she saw me come down the stairs, I received a tired scowl with, “I sure hope this is important because we’re over here at the crack of dawn, Tiffany!” I said nothing because I knew I’d spit fire if my mouth opened. All I could do was breathe. My heart will never forget this moment. But today, I decided to be brave & take her out. It was rough around the edges - but I bribed my little boys with popcorn while I did her makeup at Sephora. She thanked me profusely & then said, “You are so good at this.” I assumed she meant at applying makeup but then she followed up with, “You’re so good at being a mom, Tiffany. You just know how to take care of others.” She’s no longer able to mother me in the traditional-sense. The roles have now reversed. It’s been this way for too long. But perhaps my own journey with my own kids has prepared me for this path. Because as crappy as reality is, loving her thru it all does feel easy. Not painless but still natural. And it does feel like something I’m good at. And then for her to briefly recognize that, even just for a second, there are no words. My heart will never forget this moment either.
