Did you know that most veggies need to be cooked so that they’re soft enough for your baby to handle safely? I show you videos of how to prepare different ones in my Baby Led Feeding online course and generally, they need to be either steamed, roasted, baked or stir fried. However, there are a few you can still slice and serve raw without having to add extra time to your meal prep. For ALL veggies (and fruit), you’ll want to make sure you wash them well before serving (whether organic or not). P.S. technically tomatoes and cucumber are a fruit but since I know we all consider them veggies (I know you do too), I’m lumping it under the veggie category for this post ⠀ .⠀ Tomatoes: you can slice these in long thin strips and serve them to your baby just like that (no need to peel the skin off). It’s juicy and squishable and easy for your baby to gum on and chew.⠀ .⠀ Cucumber: These can also be cut into long thin strips and offered without skin or with skin (for grip and especially when your baby is younger and doesn’t have teeth to bite the skin off yet). Tip: for teething babies, chuck one of these in the freezer for a while before serving it. You baby will love the feeling on their sore gums!⠀ .⠀ Peppers: I have an asterisk by the pepper because these are great to serve raw when your baby is young and again, doesn’t have teeth to bite off large chunks yet. In the first month or two, they can just gum on the peppers and get lots of flavour from it (through they will likely be able to “eat” more of it when it’s cooked). As they get their front teeth in, cooking it lightly will be the safest option. .⠀ Need help feeding your baby? This kid loves his food couldn’t eat it quick enough!! I’ve noticed such a big change the last couple of weeks in Luca,he has really gone off purée foods and really wants to hold everything! I never really did the whole “Led” weaning purely Because Luca was always so hungry and would get frustrated not having mouthfuls! I started giving him Purée foods from 16 weeks old and gradually the amount of food and feeds were going up... he absolutely loves those wafers/rusk things too and would munch on them all day if he could! At first I felt this huge responsibility because it was so easy just giving him Milk! It’s daunting being responsible in a whole new way! Sounds silly but it’s one thing keeping your baby alive on milk but when that times comes it’s a bit overwhelming -where do you start! I suddenly was worrying about choking, how much to feed him, what to feed him, when to feed etc it was such a big change! Even though it’s been gradual it’s been quite the adventure! (A messy adventure ) it’s so lovely feeding him proper food and watching him enjoy it so much! He makes “mmmm” sounds I definitely don’t go by the book and I haven’t just been giving him healthy things all the time (most of the time) but he has ice cream, ice lolly’s,chocolate cookies ,Pom bears you name it I think everything in moderation is good and I’m getting him used to all different flavours, textures and temperatures! Most of all Luca is happy, he is the happiest baby on the planet !This is a tiny little stepping stone to him becoming more developed as he gets bigger and older! My baby boy now looks like a toddler and even acts like one sometimes! I blinked and he now eats spaghetti hoops, how did this happen ?! This whole crazy journey of motherhood as only just begun and each month that passes the love and joy gets greater and greater! These silly little pictures are memories and fun times I’ll remember forever! Love my Luca so much! I can’t wait to give him more food!!!! Getting some greens in with this combination! Also, it’s another one pot meal (that means you only wash one pot!). . 1 small potato 2 broccoli florets A handful of peas 20g minced beef 1 cube beef/chicken broth or water . Method: 1) Peel and cube the potato, wash the broccoli thoroughly. 2) Add everything into your cooker of choice. Approx. 2-3 hours on slow cooker, an hour on double boiler or approx. 20min on a regular pot. Check that all veg are soft and tender and beef is fully cooked. 3) Mash with a fork or purée for younger babies. Serve when cooled. . Theas second day on baby food • • She’s absolutely loving her baby porridge and she gets really excited with every spoon full, opening her mouth wide and flapping her arms about. Fish are highly nutritious both for adults and babies! They are high in protein and contains omega 3 fatty acids such as DHA! Some fish that are safe for children include salmon, cod, threadfin, sole, and sea bass. Do avoid fish that are high in mercury such as shark, swordfish and king mackerel. . As always, do consult your Pediatrician regarding introduction of solid foods to your baby . Fish may be steamed, poached or baked, and always check for bones before offering to baby. . One small potato 1/2 small sweet potato 20g salmon One cube of vegetable broth or water . Method: 1) Peel, wash and dice the vegetables. 2) Bring the vegetables and vegetable stock or water to a boil for 10min over medium heat, then add the salmon and cook for another 5min. Make sure the salmon is cooked through and check the fish again for bones. 3) Blend the mixture with a blender or mash for older babies.
