I first posted this mini baked donut recipe in 2013. Back in the day when pretty much the only people reading my posts were people I knew plus a few dedicated followers that randomly found me on Wordpress. The entire post said nothing about the donuts. Not at all. I talked about my personal life and shared some sad things that were happening at the time and then... BAM donut recipe. HAHA. It's just how old school blogging was. And then Lauren Conrad pinned it on one of her pinterest boards and it got flooded with strangers reading about my life. I guess I always knew that was a possibility, but didn't really think it would ever happen to me. Well it took me all of 6 years to finally update the post to actually talk about the donuts. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and that’s something that is very important to me. Someone once told me that all people want is to feel known and feel significant. I think that is 100% true and just showing up for people can be huge. We are all quick to say things like “it’s okay,” “it’ll be fine” or “everything happens for a reason,” and maybe that isn’t ill intentioned, but sometimes it really isn’t okay and it doesn’t feel fine. I love for my cakes to be sunshine and rainbows, but that’s not how life feels all the time, and that’s okay too. A big part of my job is sitting with people in pain and giving them permission to say “it’s not okay” and “I’m not okay.” Be real about how you feel, ask for help, and take care of yourself. One of the ways I do that is baking.
