I’m a sucker for a good true crime book, podcast, documentary, etc., so I got way too excited when @gallerybooks sent me a copy of MY FRIEND ANNA by Rachel DeLoache Williams. #gifted • This book is written by Anna Delvey’s (or, I should say, Anna Sorokin, the Russian con woman posing as a German heiress) friend who was conned out of $70,000. The summary alone was enough to draw me in, but so far I’ve found this story entirely absorbing. I’m not too far into it yet, but I’ve found it really interesting to notice the moments that would have seemed rather innocuous, but given the context of what happened, take on a predatory and sinister undertone. • Is this one on your list? It’s a very good Friday. I now have a three week break from school, it’s an after hours program for teens celebrating the end of summer tonight, and I don’t work tomorrow. The only reading I’ve done the past week is for school and audiobooks, so I’m penciling in some time to finish THE DUKE AND I. . I haven’t been on in a few days because I took a wonderful weekend trip with my parents and husband to St. Louis for a Cards game and a zoo visit, then I got home and immediately set to work on my final project due tomorrow. . I’ve only been able to pick up a book this morning, and that’s okay. At this point, I’m pretty guilt-free with reading. It ebbs and flows. I’m still loving HIS HIDEOUS HEART, and there’s one story that has absolutely blown me away. Once I finish the collection, I’ll post more about it. . Short magical realism and horror stories are some of my favorites. I loved TOIL & TROUBLE last year too. One of the things I love about the romance bookstore in my city is that they support local authors. Their booksellers take the time to really understand a customer’s taste and make recommendations.
