DIY Pedialyte! Our little ones are more susceptible to dehydration than the general population, something I learned first-hand last week after Vander caught a nasty virus. Oral rehydration therapy, or Pedialyte, is usually recommended after bouts of vomiting and diarrhea to replenish essential minerals. ———————————————————————— This DIY version is from the UNICEF guidelines on rehydration and is an inexpensive option over brand name drinks. It also contains the same essentials: sodium, potassium, chloride and zinc. We don’t normally recommend sugary drinks, but the sugar here is essential as glucose accelerates the absorption of both the water and salt. ———————————————————————- ‍♀️ How much to give? Children under 2 need ~1/2 cup after each bout of diarrhea or vomiting and children over age 2 need ~ 1 cup of this drink after. For super sick babes, you can feed them via spoon or syringe- that’s how we fed this to Vander and it helped me to know he was taking it down. ***Please call your doctor if baby is less than 6 months old, has any blood, vomits for more than 6 hours, has a high fever along with diarrhea*** ———————————————————————- Mix together 5 cups water, 6 level teaspoons sugar, and 1/2 level teaspoon salt. Stir until solids are absorbed, then serve! today i had a patient say to me, “every dietitian i’ve ever met has told me i need to eat more vegetables.” although i didn’t love that she thought we all sound like broken records, there’s a reason why vegetables are so strongly encouraged by registered dietitians! being healthy is NOT just about what you don’t eat. sure people can restrict sweets, gluten, or nightshades () all day but none of that is going to have the same effect as a balanced diet full of lots of fruits and veggies plus, avoiding food is no fun anyways // cauliflower gnocchi sautéed in garlic and olive oil with mushrooms, plus baby spinach, lemony basil tomaotes, and a pasture rises egg for protein #eatyourveggies #cauliflowergnocchi #vegetarian

Since the eight straight weeks of #muffinclubformoms is now in the books, it only felt appropriate to ease the absence with a new #muffinclubmonday idea my littles and I enjoyed last week!⁣ ⁣ Anytime you are offering a #loveitlikeitlearningit meal you want deconstructed (i.e. cobb salad), consider tossing it in a muffin tin for several compartments your kids can pick and choose from. While cheese and bacon were my kid's first "love it foods" shown here, I am thankful for how much their palates have expanded to now at least try EVERY item included.⁣ ⁣ You can adapt this however you want with endless options or whatever you have on hand!
