Did you know that most of the spring on your jumps comes from the muscles in your lower leg, but how often do you do exercises to strengthen them on the ice? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ This exercise is the first step to learning toe steps, in the future I’ll be posting the natural progressions and more advanced toe step exercises for you to practice ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ WHAT ——— Exercise: Barrier toe steps Skill Type: Jump exercise Difficulty: Beginner + ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ WHY ——— Strength ankles and lower leg muscles Improve jump height Improve jump takeoffs ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ HOW ——— Do this exercise at the barrier, you should always have at least one hand on the barrier for safety. The fall we want to avoid it backwards So make sure you stand tall and keep you weight slightly forward at all times. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Keep your legs straight throughout and stand on your toe picks.
