How will cycling affect my sex life? ⠀⠀

⠀⠀Cycling is a major contributor to improve cardiovascular health. Indeed, 30-60 minute rides a few days a week improve oxygen uptake and boost blood flow that’s been shown to make cycling a sexual enhancement for many men. Along with other benefits of cycling such as burning calories, improving muscle strength and tone, regular cycling has also been shown to help manage stress hormones, which, when heightened, can cripple sex drive. ⠀⠀

But what is the impact of long sessions in the saddle? (Especially after multi-day races and full Ironman)⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
One notable study into the side effects of the saddle on men was carried out by Norwegian researchers who evaluated 160 male cyclists after they took part in a 324-mile bike tour. Post-ride interviews revealed that one in five of the men had experienced numbness of the penis, which lasted more than a week in some cases. Thirteen percent (21 men) also developed erectile dysfunction that lasted more than a week. ⠀⠀
Problems related to numbness in the genitals and bruising aren’t uncommon in women also. ⠀⠀
Here is my recommendation how to feel comfortable in the saddle: ⠀
✅Try tilting your saddle’s nose downwards if your nether regions tend to feel numb after a ride.
✅Don’t choose the most advanced and expensive saddle but the most comfortable for you!‼️Try different designs and widths of saddles. ✅Choose right bibs with right chamois position and padding with antibacterial fabric.
✅Use chamois cream. ⠀⠀

The key to a good trainer ride, is a good workout. Breaking things up into “efforts” makes the time go by quick. Here’s a go-to weekly one for me for those of you looking for some indoor inspiration. The theme for this ride is build - we build the efforts throughout from to

WU: 30’ smooth building effort by 10 watts every 10 minutes.

Activation: 1’ tempo, 4’ smooth / 2’ tempo, 3’ smooth / 3’ tempo, 2’ smooth / 4’ tempo, 1’ smooth.

MS: 15’ build efforts, you pick the effort and how many rounds of 15’ you want to do. I try to make each 15’ round a bit stronger than the next. I aim to do 3-4 rounds. Done as (continuous): 5’ @ IM watts + 60 cd / 4’ add 10 watts + 70 cd / 3’ add 10 watts + 80 cd / 2’ add 10 watts + 90 cd / 1’ @ effort + 100 cd / Take 5’ easy between each round.
