It seems quite apt that I have failed to read this one before the day for my post on the newly release How To Fail Insta Tour! The irony is not lost on me. But, I’m not going to beat myself up about this book {along with the seemingly trillion other books} sitting on my shelf still to be read. For one thing, I know it won’t be long until I have joined the throngs of others who are waxing lyrical about how wonderful this book is. It already has me hooked with the quotes on the inside page: ‘This is a book for anyone who has ever failed. Which means it’s a book for everyone... How to Fail reveals that failure is not what defines us; rather it is how we respond to it that shapes us as individuals.’ As this is a book related post, I’m going to talk about my failure with books. You know what, sometimes my failure to have read all the books I own gets to me. I know that it shouldn’t but the guilt is there. What I need to remember is that I read for me, whether that’s for pleasure, knowledge or enlightenment and not for anyone else’s idea of how or what I should be reading. Why I own a book and whether or not I have read it is not a question I am bound to answer for anyone. So the fact that Tolstoy, Infinite Jest and Mansfield Park all sit on my bedside table unread is going to worry me no more and I am going to remember that, for all the books I’m yet to read, I have read enough books already to fill my heart. {I am aware the book touches on far deeper issues of things that appear to fail ie. relationships, work and family but @elizabday can walk you through all that and the minefield of what is life in this wonderful book.} Thank you to @4thestatebooks for having me along for the tour and watch out for @wordchild and her post on this one tomorrow} #gifted #howtofail #elizabethday

The Hate U Give . Starr is living a double life. She is one Starr in the black neighbourhood where she lives and another Starr in school (where she has white friends and a nice, white boyfriend). She handles it well, until she becomes the only witness to when a cop shoots her black childhood friend to death. . The Hate U Give is about race, identity, loyalty, family and friendship. There is some romantic love as well, but that's not what this book is about. I love that the story explores other parts of finding ones identity besides just romantic relationships. YA literature can be very focused on love and sexuality, which is natural because it's a huge part of being a teenager for many of us, but it's important with stories about all the other relevant topics as well. (have you read this one @sumaiyya.books ?) . I loved this book. It's well written and touching and it stayed with me for weeks after I had read it. Have you read THUG (or seen the movie)? Picked up some gorgeous bits from @loveofliteratureco this past week! I do love getting paid from work bought a gorgeous ‘just reading’ Harry Potter inspired bookmark and of course, I had to get the Night Court print....
