After a year in a gym, our church renovation is finally complete and it’s remarkably beautiful, as every church should be. The world needs beauty. When we go to Mass we should encounter beauty in both the liturgy and the material world that surrounds us, but what struck me last night was the beauty of our parish community. At the 6:00 PM Mass the pews were packed with worshipers. After Mass we caught up with Christ in the City missionaries, FOCUS missionaries, ladies in my small group, families from school, and Kevin’s PT who he invited to Mass at our parish weeks ago and she finally came. The community at our parish is unbelievable, especially the young adult community. Literally hundreds of young adults are in small groups at our parish. Having been in FOCUS, I know how powerful this is. Sometimes I think we make parish life too complicated. Here’s the simple truth, if you feel like your parish community is lame, do something about it. Stop waiting for someone else to make it better. Find people who are in the same stage of life as you and interact with them outside of church. Start a running club. Start a Bible study. Start a dinner club. Start a rosary group. Start a men’s group, women’s group, singles group, moms group. I don’t care what you do, just get together and things will change. #catholic #howtocatholic #liturgicalliving #bissisterhood

During Lent we cut way back on sweets and media, so for today’s Solemnity of the Annunciation, Grace and I hosted a movie party to celebrate. Yesterday we dawdled around the party store so Grace could carefully pick out blue candy (in honor of Mary) and we made special signs for ticket sales and the concession stand. Celebrating feast days doesn’t have to be complicated and it doesn’t always have to be based upon a long standing Church tradition. Really, it just has to be intentional. We stopped on our way back home at this beautiful Shrine of Christ’s Passion in St. John, IN. They had a lovely memorial for aborted babies, with this statue of Jesus weeping with a tiny baby in his hands. I couldn’t help but tear up. It even moved my little ones enough to wonder what was wrong, so we were able to explain to them a little more visually why we pray every day for the end to abortion, the murder of defenseless little babies. My daughter even named the baby Mary...very fitting. I think it’s time we start to spiritually adopt a child in danger of abortion, and it looks like we already found a name.❤️ .
