I was the first girl in a wheelchair to compete in Miss NC USA, and here is how it changed my life... For so many years I have battled with insecurities about my body because of having to use a wheelchair. When getting ready to compete in this pageant, I realized that I would have to face those insecurities head on, and in the process, learn to accept my body for the unique beauty it possesses. I knew I had to take my health to the next level, and after training with @angelofrasier and @specializednc and working with designers and makeup artists like @gregoryellenburg @_beautybybrooke3 and @youniquebeauty , I started to feel much more confident about how I could present myself. But when competition day came, I suddenly found myself surrounded by beautiful women, standing tall and gazelle-like all around me. I could literally feel myself shrinking back and feeling massively intimidated. The show however, must go on, and I had to reach inside to find the courage to wheel across the stage like it was meant for me, that I may be sitting down, but I was not ashamed and I would not hold back. When it was my turn to wheel down the ramp, I forced myself to do it as if I knew I couldn’t fail. This has taught me such a massively important lesson that I will take with me from now on. No matter who you are or what you look like, sitting tall or standing tall, GO BOLDLY, and expect people to see the beautiful you!
