Last night Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Centre hosted our very FIRST fundraiser and we got to do it with our dear friends at @averys_legacy and @compassionstonesbycarolinpost (if you aren’t following them, you need to!) Our hearts are still so joyful having seen the Centre full of love and kindness. . . . It was a fun evening of community; creating compassion stones, laughter, sharing, and connecting—all for good causes. The entire event was in support of Avery’s Legacy and the Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Centre, both amazing and needed organizations in Calgary. . . . What possibilities for healing, support and connection can a new peer mentoring program bring? ⁣ ⁣ Let's find out!⁣ ⁣ Yesterday our team hosted and facilitated our very first Volunteer Peer Mentoring Training at the @pregnancylosssupportyyc ⁣ We had 10 participants (one who joined us from Montreal!). The commitment, passion and vulnerability each person showed up with was inspiring. :::SITTING WITH DARKNESS:::. . . . Recently I went to a local restaurant called “Dark Table”. The concept of the restaurant is that you dine in complete darkness. You can’t see a single thing around you, not even your hand in front of your face. . . . When we first got seated at our table I didn’t know what to expect. And as I looked around into the layers of darkness, I started to panic. It was dark. Like really dark. And scary. And super uncomfortable. I couldn’t tell who was next to me or what was in front of me. I felt out of control; the darkness slowly suffocating me. I wanted to get up and run out. . . . But I literally couldn’t run—I couldn’t see which way was in or which way was out. . . . So I had no choice but to sit with it. I sat in the discomfort. In the fear. In the unknown. I sat with it all. The darkness closing in on me. . . . But then out of nowhere a small sliver of light appeared. A super small sliver that you wouldn’t even be able to see had it not been for the darkness around me. So small that I’m not sure it was even real; it didn’t need to be. . . . Because in that moment that sliver of light brought me calm. It gave me comfort. It eased my rapidly racing heart. And it served as a deep reminder that sometimes we need to sit in the darkness, the discomfort, the unknown in order to see the glimmers of light. The smallest spaces of hope. . . . We can’t always run away. We spoke without fear of judgement. We spoke out our baby’s names. . . . We saw each other. Truly saw each other. Not only the pretty and light parts of us; we saw the complicated, messy, and silenced parts as well. . . . And I left feeling held. Held in understanding. Held in compassion. Held in love. . . .
