⚠️It’s going to be VERY hot this week as CT prepares for temps in the 90’s!!⚠️Please read and share this important information about how to prevent and treat heat stroke in animals! ❄️KEEP COOL: Dogs and cats can become overheated and dehydrated quickly in hot weather, so keep them inside in air conditioning as much as possible. If you must bring them outside, keep it short and make sure your pet has a shady place to escape the sun and free access to water. Don't let your dog linger on hot asphalt. Being so close the ground, your dog's body can heat up quickly, and sensitive paw pads can burn. Never leave your animals alone in the car- even with the windows open, a car can become a furnace in no time, and heatstroke can develop, which is potentially fatal. ⚡️KNOW THE SYMPTOMS: the symptoms of overheating in pets include excessive panting or difficulty breathing, increased heart and respiratory rate, drooling, mild weakness, seizures, and an elevated body temperature of over 104 degrees. Animals with flat faces, like pugs and Persian cats, are more susceptible to heat stroke since they cannot pant as effectively. These pets, along with the elderly, the overweight, and those with heart or lung diseases, should be kept cool in air-conditioned rooms as much as possible. WHAT TO DO: If you suspect your pet is overheating, get them out of the heat immediately and give them access to water to drink. Do NOT douse them with cold water as this could send them into shock and be life threatening.
