Today is national #transdayofvisibility I am proud to be a transgender woman and I’m proud to be with my transgender boyfriend! Today isn’t just special, it’s needed to help raise awareness for the trans community. We’re still fighting for our equality. We are here, we are valid, we are deserving of respect and we deserve human rights. We choose to live our lives visibly to help create positive change. Neither Jesse nor I knew of any trans person when were kids. Sometimes I imagine how much easier my life would’ve been had I known of a trans person let alone a couple that models in their underwear. This being said, I wouldn’t change my experience because they’re what shaped me into the strong, resilient, proud, beautiful transgender woman I today. We have so much to celebrate. So today is Trans Day of Visibility and I’m so thankful to still be visible (alive) and thriving. In comparison, so many of my peers are struggling in ways that I just don’t have to. That said, I am struggling in ways that cis folks can never imagine. I honestly have to keep both perspectives in mind if I’m going to be present and advocate for a better world. Some days I just want to sit at my favorite restaurant and eat with friends but other days I have to roll up my sleeves and do the “work” of advocacy, and both are valid forms of being visible. I just got this hoodie in the mail from @freeformedapparel just in time for #tdov and wearing it around today makes me feel so proud. In a way it’s just a hoodie with a cute emblem on it but it also means something to me to be able to wear it as a badge of pride. It’s the little things I guess, but the impact of them are bigger than people sometimes realize. In that way, it’s like the idea of visibility. #TransDayOfVisibility2019 I gave up almost everything from opportunities to family and friends just to feel try my best to feel normal. A lot of you have helped me get here whether is was passing down clothes or just being there for me. Thank you to my friends who held me when I needed to cry, when I felt like my life was over, when I was mistreated etc. I do what I do in hopes of helping another trans woman find herself and feel comfortable. I have received emails telling me I helped out someone’s little sister with coming out, I’ve had girls say I inspired them or they look up to me because I’ve helped so much. At this point in my life I just want to be there for other trans women who need someone because I didn’t get that someone.
