Piggybacking off of a post by friend & colleague @jquintnmt in regards to rotational training and linear training to increase joint capacities (joint capacity work). I did a hip variation using these principles. .
▶️Using accommodating resistance to train the hip capsule with internal and external rotations. Loading active workspaces in both directions. 3-4 sets of 10-12. .
▶️Dead stop kettlebell swings to train linear ranges dynamically. Moving a suboptimal weight as fast as possible. 3-4 sets of 10-12 (getting bell to shoulder height). .

After our Functional Range Release treatment which was aimed to create a better hip joint, create more lumbar spine segmentation and increase physical capacities. ⚠️ video is sped up slightly. .
✅During this treatment I spent a lot of time specifically doing a mobilization that isolated the anterior medial capsule of the hip joint. .
✅The first two positions I put my client in were to replicate the treatment only changing the constraints a bit so that he can increase awareness and increase physical/neurological capacities by using FRC principles. .
✅In the first video he has good control of a relatively easy articulation (spinal flexion/extension). Lastly in the video, I load him more by utilizing the @westsidebarbellofficial reverse hyper machine. His range of motion is less but he his loading the specific tissues we just ASSESSED, CREATED, CONTROLLED and then need to be STRENGTHENED. .
✅Lots of inputs into the same system in various forms and intensities.

☑️FR treatment focused on isometrically loading the mechanically restricted ranges of the capsular (connective) tissues within the glenohumeral joint; which enabled the acquisition of increased active/passive ranges of motion of the humerus (arm bone) relative to the scapula (shoulder blade), specifically in rotation.
✅Overall Objective: Expand the available ranges of motion (ROMs) while inducing tissue adaption.

2️⃣"Global Treatment" ➡️ CONTROL
☑️CARs post FR treatment (in this specific setting) is to challenge the newly acquired ROMs via FR treatment, in a more global setting to teach the Central Nervous System (CNS) how to control the newly acquired ROMs.
✅Overall Objective: Expand/Improve neurological control by providing the CNS with as much afferent feedback as possible in a global setting within the newly acquired ROMs.

‼️Afferent Feedback: is information coming from the peripheral tissues structures (articulating tissues of the joint) that provides the CNS with information about where the joint is in space and what it is doing.

Today was all about getting back into the swing of things. Was sidelined for the last few days and basically spent all of the last 72 hours on the couch Still not 100% but I got my behind to work and had a large gap between clients. As stiff as a board from all the sitting and laying around, my 18 year old self was saying “LETS GO SLAP ON 405 ON THE BAR AND DEADLIFT”. While my 28 year old self (damnit I’m getting old) slapped some sense into me and told me to take it easy and go through some stretches and mobility drills... ________________________________________________________
Moral of the story is DONT BE 18 YEAR OLD MIKE and listen to you body. You know it best and you know when you’re at your peak performance level. You also know when things aren’t clicking. So do what 28 year old Mike did and scale it back accordingly. We can all use a little more bendy action in our lives anyways. .

The Secret to good shoulder health can be found in the functionality of the internal and external rotators of the shoulder. The rotator cuff consists of 4 muscles: Subscapularis, Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, and Teres minor. Isolating each muscle can be beneficial if you are dealing with imbalances. But if you are simply looking for a functional drill to tackle both interal and external rotation this is it.
•
Cues:
•
1. Grab a dowel or towel.
2. Place behind the back (top hand about level with the back of the head and bottom hand approximately level with the waiste line). Note- if this is overly difficult extend the arms out a bit more.
3. Lift the dowel/ towel off of the back and lift up and down and a slow controlled tempo (2 seconds up/ 2 seconds down).
4. Repeat 10/12 times on each side for symmetry x 3 sets) ————————————————
