I really love how the production and admiration of blue & white ceramics spans across so many cultures over hundreds of years. This piece got so much love on social media! But unfortunately she never found her forever home no matter how many times I tried and with all the shares she simply didn’t catch anyone’s eye. I refused to keep dropping the price just to move it. I accepted defeat and and repainted her white. I had tears in my eyes with each stroke and felt so down about myself. But I pushed through and think she has come up pretty, but it still broke my heart. On a positive I had a blast expressing my self first time around and picked up a couple of new techniques on the second #shabbychic

||Swipe to see the transformation || I’ve always loved going to thrift stores and garage sales to find furniture. There’s something exhilarating about finding a forgotten treasure and restoring it. Not to mention, it’s good for the environment and the budget We have several pieces of furniture throughout our home that I’ve rehabbed and they are some of my favorites because older furniture tends to have so much character. My most recent project was to rehab our kitchen table. It’s a solid piece of furniture, but had tons of chipping on the surface and just wasn’t our style anymore, so I partnered with @varathane to give it a face lift! For the top, Istripped the old stain from the wood and then used @varathane in Briarsmoke for a beautiful smoky gray stain. This stain was a bit different than other stains I’ve used, so I definitely recommend practicing on a scrap piece of wood first to get a feel for how it works. Once I got familiar with it, it was SO easy to work with. Varathane stains dry very quickly and you only need one coat which is really awesome. (Side note: be sure to wear a respirator for this. I forgot when applying the stain, but wore one the rest of the time just to be safe) Once the stain was dry, I topped it with 4 coats of their water based polyurethane. Our kitchen table sees a LOT of traffic, so I knew I wanted a very durable finish and Varathane did not disappoint! After finishing the tabletop, I used Rust-Oleum’s Oil Based Enamel paint in white on the base of the table. Again--very durable and also will prevent the iron from rusting which is fantastic.  I honestly could NOT be more excited with how the whole table turned out It makes our whole kitchen brighter!
