Well, I have to say I’ve learned a lot from this pot. The technical skills I had to employ were a fun puzzle and a challenge. I’m going to be diligent about making these shapes as a way to learn fundamentals but I’m looking forward to deviating from what I learn in the pursuit of my own voice.

Drinking two Jingmai Moonlight White teacakes from @farmer.leaf.
In order to thank Marianne for sharing these two cakes with me and other teaheads, I thought it might be fun to have a teasession outside. I have to admit: I find it rather difficult to pick up certain notes. Teaware cooling down quickly, aroma evaporating in the wind, I had a hard time telling the open air aromas from the tea... In general the spring cake represented the Moonlight White tea as I remember. Fluffy beige coloured buds and dark withered leaves that brew a beautiful amber liquor. The dry leaves have a milky vanilla aroma and wet they give a sweet peach or apricotjam aroma. The liquor has a juicy and refreshing minerality that tastes like spring and watermelon and has a dry aftertaste like a Silver Needle.
The summer cake was really something else and surprised me more than once. The leaves got me off guard at first for they looked like a Bai Mu Dan only with woodsy brown colours. The liquor was more or less the same as the spring pick, but the colour was slightly darker. The dry leaves had a fruity grape aroma and wet they smelled more woodsy. The texture surprised me a lot; it felt like a raw PuErh! An oily, salivating and velvety soft texture, interesting! In terms of taste I only picked up notes like raw mushrooms... which I never had before in a white tea.
I think it would be best that I have this session again, but then inside. My nose constantly picked up aromas from the open air. Don't get me wrong... outside teasessions are the best, but not when I first get to know a tea or want to write my tasting notes.

It’s not every day that you get the pleasure of reenacting the roots of your craft. At the Yingge Ceramics Park they have a very cool demonstration area set up with various human powered pottery wheels. When I told the gentleman who ran the demo area I make pottery he put a ball of clay in my hand and had me try each one in turn. For whatever reason the oldest design was the one I had the easiest time with. I’ve seen wheels like these in videos but I always found them daunting and imagined them impossible and unwieldy. I was wrong. It was actually exhilarating to use and the substantial weight of the fly wheel gave the wheel some serious power. When I have my own studio I’ll strongly consider making one of these for kicks. Hehe .
