The coronation robes are based on ancient imperial garments and are in silk thread surrounded by gold spirals. They look like the dresses of the high clergy, thus highlighting the fact that the reign of the sovereign enjoys divine approval. On the Colobium Sidonis (Image2), the monarch wears the Supertunica (Image3), a long coat of gold cloth made for George V but which is almost identical to the oldest model known, made for James II in 1685. The priestly star is then put around the neck. Finally, the imperial coat (Image4) , the oldest and most impressive of clothes, is put on. It was made for the coronation of George IV and used by Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The imperial coat is covered with the emblems of the newly created United Kingdom and imperial eagles reminiscent of the ancient origin of the coat. —— Les robes du couronnement sont fondées sur d’anciens vêtements impériaux et sont en fil de soie entouré de spirales d’or.
