On July 2nd, 1863, during the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, Colonel Joshua Chamberlain and his 20th Maine was posted on the extreme left of the Federal line at Little Round Top, just in time to face Confederate General John B. Hood’s attack on the Union flank. Completely exhausted after repulsing repeated assaults from the 15th and 47th Alabama, and out of ammunition, Chamberlain saw he had no other option but to organize a daring bayonet charge into John B. Hoods advancing confederates. He famously yelled out “Bayonets” to signal his men for the inevitable charge. Then Chamberlain and his 20th Maine desperately stormed down Little Round Top, ultimately dislodging their attackers and securing General Meade’s embattled left. Though the exact origin of the charge is still the subject of debate, Congress awarded Chamberlain the Medal of Honor for “conspicuous gallantry.” Joshua Chamberlain is one of my favorite soldiers and hero’s of the American Civil war! Thinking back to our investigation of the Jennie Wade house in Gettysburg and how intense the energy was in the basement. Jennie's father was the spirit we were communicating with and easiest way put, he was not happy. This picture shows the lights/streaks we were seeing with our eyes while communicating with him. It wasn't until the only male in our group showed respect by taking his hat off that Jennie's father was willing to communicate. What a crazy investigation that left us all in a trance-like state, was incredibly emotional, and without being overly dramatic, changed my entire perspective of the paranormal world. Motherhood has been the most sanctifying thing I have ever been through. It has been the holiest, hardest, most rewarding + life giving (and bc I’ll always be honest, sometimes life sucking) thing I have ever done. It brings me joy and laughter and simultaneously a little bit of sadness. Doing the start of motherhood without my own momma has brought its own kind of heartache and blues and I often find myself asking, “how would my mom handle this?” . . And days like today when I’m tired + worn + sandwiched between weekends with family that yet again don’t include my sweet mom arriving with her loud laugh + delicious cooking + hugs + pinching (if you know, then you know ), more often than not end in tears and grieving all over again. Because grief is always a process and it’s always changing and it doesn’t ever look the same for two people. And it breaks you but you heal + you become stronger than before and you can always, always get back up even in the moments that it feels gravity has a heavy hold on your heart. There is grace for today and again for tomorrow and He is enough and He is good and He is for me + you + us. Clinging to all of that tonight + this sweet little nugget of mine who also shows me nuggets of extra appreciation for my momma and all she did for us in her short but striking time on this earth.
