The mystical Giant’s Causeway is one of Ireland’s most exotic and intriguing places. Jutting out dramatically into the sea, the Giant’s Causeway is a collection of 40,000 interlocking basalt columns about 60 million years old.
Science claims that it was created long ago by quick-cooling lava. However, Legend has it that Fionn Mac Cumhaill (An Irish Giant) and Scottish big man Benandonner are responsible.
One day after enduring insults from Benandonner, Fionn built a path to use as stepping-stones to reach Scotland, which was then ripped up by Benandonner. The result was the Giant’s Causeway. What are your thoughts?

Here’s another capture from our recent shoot at the Giant’s Causeway! Many of the shoots @kara.markley and I do are based off of mythology (That is all Kara, I can’t take any credit for the concepting!). This series is our interpretation of myths surrounding the Selkie. Check out her page for more in-depth retellings of these stories, and how we try to convey them in our photos!
Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland
✨According to the legend, the columns of Giant’s Causeway are the remains of a causeway built by a giant to reach Scotland.
According to the science, it was formed by a volcanic eruption millions of year ago. As the lava dried it creates symmetrical hexagonal pillars in the form of a staircase.
Which version do you prefer? Legend ♂️ or science ✨

#FollowMeTo....
