Is it a starry night sky, or thousands of little glowing worms? To tell you the truth, when the lights go out, it’s hard to tell! It took much trial and error to get this shot, but luckily the Waipu caves are much less touristic than other glow worm caves so we had plenty of time and...space... Can you believe we had this incredible spot all to ourselves for almost an hour?! What’s the coolest cave you’ve ever visited?

This is one of the best places on our trip, we saw something we never seen before - glow worms. It’s an abandoned railway tunnel, 600 m long. It’s was completely dark and we just had the guts to walk 200 m into the tunnel. So worth it, the whole “roof” was covered with blue glow worms. Definitely something you should have on you bucket list!

It’s about time I went caving again! Back in September I bought the new Nikon Z7 mirrorless system and where better to break it in than a glowworm cave up north. A camera that excels in low light is key for me and all my cameras have to pass the glowworm test - as you can see, the Z7 nailed it! It’s super impressive! Having used the Z7 almost every day and tested it to it’s limits (in every kind of scenario) over the past 6 weeks, I can honestly say it’s an incredible piece of kit. That being said, I’ve recently come to the realisation that it just can’t beat my D850. Maybe I’m just stuck in my ways but there’s something about a digital viewfinder that doesn’t seem to work for me. I’ve also come across a few functionality issues when shooting on fast paced shoots and the camera simply can’t keep up with my workflow. Shooting dual cameras with a mirrorless and a DSLR can be super confusing at times - it definitely has to be one or the other. Again, maybe I’m just too used to DSLR systems - time will tell. I do love the Z7, but it doesn’t work in all my work situations. Sometimes we need to step outside our comfort zone, challenge ourselves and perhaps even look danger in the face. Overcoming fears can be empowering and sharing a challenge with someone special not only forms bonds but goes deeper than that to strengthen relationships. Yes this is a picture of us rappelling 100 meters down into the mouth of a cave called "The Lost World" at Waitomo New Zealand. What an amazing experience.
