My taking-care-of-sick-child vintage mum look is vaguely Betty Draperish and I don’t mind. These ‘60s polyester shorts make me realize why bike shorts are having a moment in contemporary fashion - sooo comfy. Shorts and top both thrifted.

Day 1 of #thevintagefashionchallenge: Me, In a Nutshell. New England gal Alia with a penchant for 1920s-70s style, mainly wearing 1960s & ‘70s these days. Before my son came along I worked behind the scenes in the fashion industry and I’ll tell you, it’s not pretty. The lack of ethics and the negative effects on the environment, not to mention on impressionable young ladies, makes you constantly question what you’re doing and why. The lack of creativity, the shoddy quality, and the absurd markups of modern fast fashion should be enough to convert anyone to past fashion. Vintage garments tend to be of a higher quality make. Most of the pieces I own were lovingly and skillfully homemade or union-made in the USA. If you shop wisely you can build up your vintage wardrobe for a pittance. And, hello, vintage clothing is beautiful! Careful attention to detail, flattering designs, and some absolutely stunning prints. It’s highly unlikely you’d ever meet someone wearing the same thing as you are when you wear vintage. I love the thrill of the hunt with vintage and the knowledge that my choice to wear pre-loved garments is the better choice for the environment. Arlo picked his own shirt for dinner out last night - a 1950s Dandy Duds button-down! With his haircut (not my idea ) he looks like one of my uncles in the sixties. Arlo doesn’t have a ton of vintage (wild child; they would be destroyed if he wore on the reg) but he really enjoys the ones he does have! His shirt came from Brimfield; my cashmere swing coat was thrifted.
