Tania Mallet, the model and actor best known for her role as Tilly Masterson in the 1964 Bond film, Goldfinger, has sadly passed away aged 77. Cast as Tilly after previously being turned down for a role in From Russia With Love, Mallet was reportedly chosen by producer Albert “Cubby” Broccoli after he was sent a photograph of her in a bikini. “I believe it was a picture taken by Henry Clark for Vogue and shows me lying on some rocks in a bikini.” she once said. Mallet appeared twice on the cover of Vogue in 1961 and starred in Michael Winner’s short documentary Girls Girls Girls! that same year, as one of three young women trying to make it in London. In her Goldfinger role starring opposite Sean Connery, she epitomised all the best attributes of a Bond girl: dangerous, independent and beautiful to boot. She was also one of the few not to fall for the British spy’s charms!

It first appeared in Goldfinger 1964 after the special effects team persuaded Aston Martin to provide them with the DB5 prototype and it was also the first Bond car with special equipment. It was so popular, that it was featured in a medley of Bond films. But even in real life, the 2-door DB5 (DB stands for David Brown, the owner of Aston Martin) had some excellent standard equipment like reclining seats, carpets, electric windows, and even a fire extinguisher. There is good news for today's James Bond fans as well: Aston Martin announced that it will produce a small series of 28 of the Bond DB5 with the first delivery in 2020. All the Goldfinger edition cars will be produced to one specification "Silver Birch paint" like the original, selling at 2,75 Million GBP including gadgets such as the revolving number plate.
