This week’s National Park Feature: Great Smoky Mountains National Park . The Great Smoky Mountains are the most popular national park in the US, thanks to beautiful forested mountains, babbling rivers, and picturesque hiking trails surrounded by wildflowers. . ICONS: The Great Smoky Mountains get their name from the haze above the forested, rolling mountains that is created by hydrocarbons in the air released from all the vegetation. One popular spot in the park is the Newfound Gap near the Charles Bunion Trail - it’s one of the park’s highest points and the most popular view. Clingmans Dome is another popular mountaintop (at 6,643 ft.) with a nearby visitors center. Lastly, there’s the ecosystems: the woodlands are filled with different kinds of trees, and there are over 1,600 varieties of wildflowers throughout the park. . THINGS TO DO: Some of the best hiking trails include the 2-mile Chimney Tops Trail, hiking to Mount Cammerer, the Alum Cave Trail, and even a taste of the Appalachian Trail! For driving, you won’t want to miss the Blue Ridge Parkway, a relaxing drive that stretches 469 miles through the Appalachian Highlands from Great Smoky Mountains National Park to Shenandoah National Park. . HISTORY: Cherokees lived in the region before the arrival of European settlers, and frontiers people began settling in the 18th century. Much of the area was logged in the mid-1800s, and there was a movement to begin to preserving the land. The US government, John D. Rockefeller, Jr., and private citizens pitched in to assemble land for the park. It was chartered by Congress in 1934 and officially became a national park with Pres. Franklin Roosevelt in 1940. . “Don’t let the sun go down on your anger.” Christian counselors report that 50 percent of people who come in for counseling have problems dealing with anger. Scripture says, “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.” Why does scripture say get over your anger before the sun sets? The rest of the verse shows why “and do not give the devil a foothold” Ephesians‬ ‭4:26-27‬. The keeping of anger through the darkness of night, is giving place to the devil, the prince of darkness, Ephesians 6:12. Sometimes we are rightfully angry but listen to this. Sweet little bear cub I came across. He was actually 1 of 3 out with his momma. She sent all 3 up a tree.

It was about 3am when I started to make my solo journey down from The Great Smoky Mountain’s tallest peak, Clingman’s Dome. The air was brisk but silent with short bursts of fog flying through the air. I won’t lie, I wasn’t so relaxed - I was alone with no one in sight and the words of TN locals “be careful of the bears” lingered in my thoughts. I spotted this tree with the Milky Way hanging out on the side of it so I decided to lay down the tripod and take a few shots.
