Happy International Climate Change Day! Today, I’m doing something that is terrible for the climate. I’m flying from Los Angeles to Anchorage, Alaska and I estimate that I alone will be contributing approximately 1000 lbs of C02 to get there and back. It’s a weird number to wrap your head around. Put it this way, you know that friend who drives everywhere?...plus back and forth to work everyday? Well, in a round trip flight I’ll be emitting what that friend does in a full month! Yikes! Talk about throwing a wet blanket on one of my favorite things to do - ever. Well, I like “getting there” best, but I also actually enjoy flying. So what to do with the guilty conscience? A recent UN Agreement will require airlines to purchase carbon offsets on international flights. But this will not be instituted until 2021. Offsets, for those of you who don’t know, are financial contributions to projects that reduce carbon emission or encourage new sustainable energy. I’m almost afraid to ask because you all will be crickets but any ideas on what we can do individually to offset plane travel? ✈️ Do you even think it’s a good idea?

¿Sabías que solo 2 de cada 10 elefantes sobrevive las torturas físicas a las que son sometidos al nacer para que hoy tú como turista puedas montarlos?. . En Phuket existe un sitio llamado The Elephant Sanctuary (El santuario de los elefantes) donde rescatan aquellos que fueron maltratados y abusados para la explotación del turismo. Cuando visiten Tailandia eviten montar elefantes o acceder a aquellas actividades turísticas donde los tienen atados o encadenados, eso quiere decir que han sido maltratados desde muy muy pequeños. . Sé consciente. Sé parte del turismo sostenible.
