Are u worried about being a crappy CSA member? A friend of mine voiced this worry as she was considering signing up for the program again. I laughed because if I was a member of our CSA I'd totally be a crappy member - sometimes I'd be late, I'd forget, I'd have to throw out the arugula that I shoved in the back of the fridge, and finding time to help on the farm (an encouraged option in our program) would be tough for me. I get it- it's hard to adapt to a less-convenient way of buying produce after we've all been spoiled our whole lives by the global food system (aka. Grocery stores and food growing practices that don't respect the planet nor build strong local communities). Being part of a CSA takes intention and love, and this is precisely the relationship I believe we should have with our food and farmers. Want to know more? Our Guelph pick-up occurs from 4-7pm every Wednesdays and if you are late or forget we charge you $5 to pack your share and deliver it to the Guelph Farmers Market on Saturdays. Local members pick up on farm on Thursdays. Now that our program is big enough we are able to offer more choice in your items and a swap bin. We offer 2 "vacation days" for regular members so you can go away and not miss out of the value you've paid for. We donate extra produce and anything that goes bad before we have a chance to donate it feeds our soil. ....... If you are up for trying to change your food habits for a good reason, joining the incredible community that has become our CSA, and supporting our small family farm please do! We'd love to have you- even if you are a "crappy member"; we will be patient as you adapt to our weird CSA ways and promise the food will be well worth it (like literally you will never want to eat salad and other vegetables from the grocery store again).
