This is a bit belated but thank you for 10K!!So happy to have you all along on my journeys and hope you find my captions/Stories helpful for planning your trip ❤️ Since there are quite a few new faces, I thought I’d share a few fun facts about myself: 1) I was born in NYC, raised in Miami, and now I’m living in NYC again. I can’t imagine living anywhere else! 2) I studied abroad twice in college - once in Beijing as a sophomore and once in Shanghai as a senior 3) I have a master’s in international politics, specializing in public diplomacy and China (where my family is from ) 4) I don’t know how to ride a bike 5) I color coordinate my closet. When I’m stressed I’ll take everything out and reorganize them. Maybe it’s weird but I always feel better afterwards! A temple written in history. . ⁣  The Hagia Sophia is one of the historical architectural wonders that still stands today. Once a church, later a mosque, and now a museum. It dates back to the fourth century A.D.⁣ . Hagia Sophia, for almost 1,000 years was the largest Greek Orthodox Christian church in the world. Unfortunately nothing remains of the original Hagia Sophia, which was built in the fourth century by Constantine the Great. . Constantine was the first Christian emperor and the founder of the city of Constantinople, which he called “the New Rome.” Hagia Sophia was one of several great churches he built in important cities throughout his empire. . Following the destruction of Constantine’s church, a second was built by his son Constantius and the emperor Theodosius the Great. This second church was burned down during the Nika riots of 532, though fragments of it have been excavated and can be seen today. . Hagia Sophia was rebuilt in her present form between 532 and 537 under the personal supervision of Emperor Justinian I. It is one of the greatest surviving examples of Byzantine architecture, rich with mosaics and marble pillars and coverings. After completion, Justinian is said to have exclaimed, Νενίκηκά σε Σολομών (“Solomon, I have outdone thee!”). The architects of the church were Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles, who were professors of geometry at the University of Constantinople. Their work was a technical triumph, even though the structure was severely damaged several times by earthquakes. . Justinian’s basilica was both the culminating architectural achievement of Late Antiquity and the first masterpiece of Byzantine architecture. Its influence, both architecturally and liturgically, was widespread and enduring in the Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Muslim worlds alike. . For over 900 years Hagia Sophia was the seat of the Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople and a principal setting for church councils and imperial ceremonies. . ...Моя самая крутая фотография с турецким кофе была сделана в кафе возле крепости Йорос - тогда у меня был старенькая четвёрка эс, руки дрожали, сердце стучало от волнения (ещё бы, у меня же была чистая страница только что скачанного инстаграмма), глаза вовсю любовались красотой вдалеке, а кофе за кадром тем временем неторопливо выливалось мне на колени. ⠀ Самые терпеливые могут увидеть то фото, прокрутив до конца мою ленту. ⠀ Спустя два года турецкий кофе снова в профиле.
