6 months and 1 day ago I had an emergency c section. I couldn’t walk for the rest of the day without coming close to passing out. For the next two weeks every step I took hurt. By six weeks postpartum I began to finally feel like myself and by 8 weeks I started running. Today, I finished a half marathon. I’m no more athletic than anyone else I’m just determined. If I can do it anyone can. One step at a time. Thanks to @tjoynt for letting me make this a priority.
Picked up my bib for Saturday’s Hot Chocolate Run in Philly today! Legs are feeling better after a serious session at the chiro today, so let’s see how they hold up. I’m not really racing this one, just going to run for fun and shake out my nerves before the marathon. Ten days to go!! •

Take that, hip pain! I love a good pigeon pose, and ironically, I’m more flexible on the side I’ve been having pain ♀️ I’ve been working on both sides in terms of stretching, foam rolling, tens therapy, arnica gel, the works. And it’s helping! Today it felt great. Let’s see how it feels with four miles tomorrow! Now if only my poor feet would cooperate...

I skipped my five miles today because my hip is still sore after Sunday’s 20 miles (uh, not to mention my feet...). The goal now? Get as healthy as possible to run 26.2 in just over 2 weeks. So I decided on yoga instead, and it was really just what I needed. I’ve missed the last month because of travel and work, and I forgot how much yoga helps me mentally and physically. We did a lot of hip openers too, as well as work on our feet - go figure, just what I needed. Now, eating the largest grain/protein salad ever. •

All right, as promised, here is a photo of this leprechaun gal today. We had our Badass Lady Gang meetup this morning, so I was bringing my Irish spirit with me. And as I’m typing this, I literally remembered that I own an “Irish” sweatshirt that would have come in reeeeeeaaaal handy this morning. Oh well! Had a blast running with my fellow badasses and celebrating in style. And in case you can’t tell, my socks have shamrocks on them. So do my sneaks! 2 miles for “cross-training”!

Today I ran the New York City Marathon.
It's a goal I've been working toward for three long years and an endless amount of miles. Running 26.2 miles started as a personal revenge plot for skipping out on my high school mile. I was embarrassed of being overweight and incredibly, almost comically slow. (Not to mention I hated the idea of running or exercise.) But today, I got my revenge. From the couch to 5k app, to the many races and trainings of @nyrr to Hal Higdon, I crossed that finish line.
Running has changed me, given me a new sense of determination and shattered that notion of "I can't." Because, well, I just did.
I savored every step I ran today, especially seeing and hearing from all of you who cheered me on either in person or via message. This was an emotional day, and you all cemented the fact that I have the best friends and support system ever. I love you all. (@smathtastic , thank you for introducing me to this painful world and being my OG running partner for life. I would have only had been able to run one mile if you hadn't trained me.) I'll never forget this day - from the thousands who cheered my name to my sobfest as I finished, I'm so grateful for today. I never thought I'd be able to do it.
I did it, y'all. 26.2 miles. ❤️
