Two years. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Wednesday marked two years of me working for myself full-time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Two years in, even though I’ve received job offers I previously thought could only happen in my dreams, I really can’t imagine having it any other way. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And while the fear I had before I left my 9-5 may not have been fully justified, It hasn’t been an easy journey. Not one bit. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here are some of the things I’ve struggled with: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1) Lack of a work family. While it’s not just me anymore at my company, I do sometimes miss the sense of community you have when you work for a traditional employer, in an office setting. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2) Accountability. When you’re sick, the show must go on. When you’re dealing with mental health issues, the show must go on. The show must always go on, at least to a certain extent. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here are some things I LOVE: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1) 80-90% of my work can be done from anywhere in the world. And as you’ve seen, this has allowed me to travel a lot and also to move my home base to Nova Scotia to be closer to my dad. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. I set my own schedule and hours. I have freedom and flexibility when I want it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. I choose what work I do. I choose which clients I take on. I choose what I teach. What I speak about. I am literally the creator of my path. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. The sky is the limit. My income and potential are only capped as much as I allow them to be. If I want to have a 5-figure month, I can have it. If I want to have a 3-figure month and chill out for a bit, I can have that too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5. So. Much. More. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As you can see, I’m pretty damn happy with my decision. It’s who I am. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When I was 4 I gathered items from my bedroom I no longer wanted and I laid them out on my bed. I then invited the neighbourhood kids over to my “yard sale”. Needless to say, nobody had any money lol. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A jewelry business when I was 11, a custom pillow making business when I was 14, a tote bag and clothing line when I was 16, logo designing business when I was 19, and on and on and on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It was never going to stop. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So I stopped fighting it and started living it. Best. Decision. Ever
