Für die Tiere gab es in der an eine afrikanische Savanne erinnernde Außenanlage beheizte Sandstellen. Zu jener Zeit ganz neu: Die Besucher waren durch einen Wassergraben anstelle eines Gitters von den Löwen getrennt. Mit einembeeindruckenden Felsenpanorama im Hintergrund und freie Sicht auf die Großkatzen sollte für die Besucher der Eindruck entstehen, sich in einer gemeinsamen Landschaft mit den faszinierenden Tieren zu bewegen. This rocky habitat, opened in 1936, was once shared by as many as ten lions. The landscape was designed to be reminiscent of an African savannah and featured heated sand patches for the big cats. Visitors were separated from the lions by only a moat instead of a fence, which was a novel feature at that time. Zpátky v českých luzích a hájích....a rovnou přímým skokem do zázračného poutního místa. Sudějov u Kutné Hory. Rozkošný žlutý kostelík sv. Anny, který byl vysvěcený roku 1725. Nebojte se vzít za kliku u brány a vstoupit. Ocitnete se ve ztichlé zahradě, s vysokou trávou, kde Vás to nutí šeptat, přestože jste tam úplně sami. Původně byl kostelík obestavěný ambity, tedy krytými klenbovými chodbami otevřenými do dvora. V Sudějově byl ambit v době napoleonských válek natolik zničený, že zbyly pouze tyto obvodové zdi. Ale teď přijde to nejdůležitější! Hlavní oltář je postaven nad studánkou, do které ze země vyvěrá zázračný léčivý pramen. Ten je svedený do malé kapličky vedle kostela. Prý léčí oční neduhy. Sotva jsem se obřadně napila, tak jsem ty oči vyvalila, když přijelo auto, vyskákala rodina s minimálně dvaceti obřími barely a jali se onen zázračný pramen čepovat. Evidentně v léčivé vodě i vaří a perou . Der Affenfelsen wurde 1932 fertiggestellt und beherbergte damals 60 Paviane, die der damalige Zoodirektor Lutz Heck auf Afrika-Expeditionen Ende der 1920er-Jahre teilweise selbst gefangen hatte. Die Gestaltung der Anlage wurde dem steinigen Lebensraum der Paviane in Äthiopien nachempfunden, die Heck auf seinen Reisen nach Afrika beobachtet hatte. Die einzelnen Nischen des Felsens waren schon damals beheizt, so dass die Tiere auch bei kühleren Temperaturen einen warmen Rückzugsort hatten und sich das ganze Jahr über im Freien aufhalten konnten. When the zoo’s Monkey Rock was first completed in 1932, it was home to 60 baboons, some of which had been captured by the incumbent zoo director Lutz Heck on his expeditions to Africa in the late 1920s. The habitat was designed to reflect the rocky home of the baboons in Ethiopia, which Heck had observed on his travels.
