Footwork Friday’s. Just kidding everyday is footwork day.
Players- you cannot work on speed when you’re body is fatigued. This is not the time of year to skate 5-6 times a week. We need to be rested and ready to fly when we hit the ice. Less ice touches but when you do make them as efficient as possible.
Happy Monday! In this drill we are working on inside edges.

This one is simple, but we need to focus on a few key points:
1. Keeping good body position. We want to make sure our knees are bent, but the body is upright and not leaning inside as the turn is made.
2. Put good pressure down into the ice on the inside edge
3. Body control. It is important to turn our hips the direction we are trying to go. The rest of our body is relatively still.
4. Take your time. This drill is not meant for speed. As we progress and master the body control and position, the speed will come.

What do Mathews, Ovechkin, Barzal, and Marner all have in common- they all influenced these release approaches and variations. In order to accomplish a dream you need to have a vision. So in order to make this type of player I blend together variations that they currently do. I then add on new ways for them to become more elusive so they can make more plays off of the same approach.
