Now this film is nothing that reinvents the wheel of horror, but holy hell is it entertaining. The gore and intensity in this movie had me licking my chops more than a cat when you shake a container of ‘Whisker Lickens’. It takes a minute for shit to hit the fan, but when it does, it’s well worth the wait. Imagine being at a restaurant and it’s taking forever to get your food, but once your creme brûlée (you boujee bitch) comes out, you gobble it up In delight quicker than Augustus Gloop in his chocolate river paradise. The serious build up leads to a fun and satirical bloodbath. Along with a wonderful build up, the score and cinematography add to a pleasant experience. The main characters are likable enough with motive for their actions, however, The rich attendees of the party are all the biggest turds imaginable. They’re more narcissistic and egocentric than that bitch Veruca Salt (last Willy Wonka reference, I promise). This movie is one that flew under the radar, but you better get yourself some sonar (here’s to you submarine aficionados) and get this one in your sights.

Eden Lake (2008) is one of the best British horror movies ever made. The movie centers around a young couple whose romantic weekend is spoiled by a gang of youths. The premise is simple and the delivery is harrowing. Kelly Reilly and Michael Fassbender's characters make plausible enough decisions that you don't find yourself yelling at the screen about their stupidity. The gang of youths are lead by Brett (Jack O'Connell - who is brilliant as always) who is a violent, aggressive and disturbing teenager. The entire movie will have you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next. It manages to play on your own emotions and makes you wonder what you would do in the main characters situation. Eden Lake (2008) is dark, depressing and will stay with you after the movie is long finished. It seems as if people either love or hate this film but either way it's definitely worth checking out, if you can stomach it!
For me it's a solid 4/5

“Portraits of Andrea Palmer,” directed by C. Huston and J. Lyons:
A woman hellbent on cash gets sucked into a spiraling world of sexual depravity and abuse after her attempt to be a cam girl leads her down a darker path of sex work. “Portraits” is the 2017 micro budget hardcore exploitation extravaganza from J. Lyons and @c__huston (who was kind enough to give me a screener for this). I wasn’t prepared for this atrocious, brilliant piece of work. From its opening moments in black and white, to its blood-soaked, and quite often, fluid-spewing color transition, it’s easy to tell that this picture does not conform to any conventional standards of decency or storytelling.
The choice of shooting this hellish journey into LA’s sleazy underbelly in a color rich 16mm format is a fantastic decision and gave the film an authentic feeling of nostalgia, like something that would make for a particularly nasty double bill with “Emmanuelle In America” in the Grindhouse theaters of 70s NYC.
Katrina Zova deserves unlimited praise for her incredibly demanding role, both on the physical and mental side. The types of bizarre sex acts she has to perform all the while a camera is rolling, is quite astounding. However, the scenes requiring the most of her physical feats are also the ones that require the most mental preparation from the viewer. The film is largely pornographic and if you aren’t ready to see rough unsimulated kinks involving labia clamps and enima, then this film is definitely not for you.
Those of you willing to swim in unsafe waters, will find yourselves challenged by “Portraits’” and you’ll leave with a devastating take on the Hollywood dream, something with the star-making critique in “Starry Eyes” and the surrealist qualities of “Mulholland Drive,” but with hardcore scenes. This one needs a physical release and deserves to sit on the shelves of every fan of extreme or exploitation cinema.
