Our kitchen now, but slide to see the before. This house had been on the market for two months and only one person had gone through it. The majority of our family said that we would have to paint our cabinets or remodel the kitchen so that it would look good. But little did they know they were talking to the queen of color;). We removed the microwave (we got a smaller one and put it in the pantry) and made a simple "hood" over the existing cabinet. The little bit of black made a big difference in breaking up the continuous wood that once felt overwhelming. We painted the surrounding walls with the perfect gray to tone down the orange/yellow tone in the cabinets. And a large rug in the kitchen, once again softening the wood. I hope you all had a beautiful weekend! My weekend plans definitely had a wrecking ball taken to them when my daughter came down sick. But my men ‍♂️ worked their tails off this weekend instead to get my garden up to speed for me. Best Mother’s Day gift ever. ‍ . Last week I finally cleaned up (this half of ) my office. I was going through my home decor to get rid of things I no longer wanted and came across this rug. I never liked it on the floor because it was too flimsy but I really liked the color and pattern. So I thought, “I should hang this on my wall.” And so I did. Design rule 101: break the rules sometimes. . . P.S. I have some exciting things happening in stories today!! This freaking guy. We don’t really celebrate holidays, we like to have fun, explore and be thankful for each other every day, which we are learning day by day how to do. Yesterday we had no plans, but he knew I am obsessed with those gorgeous mountains so out we went, and the four of us had the best time out there we’ve ever had. We drove around looking at new lakes and decided to make it our goal to do as many hikes and adventures as a family we can cram into one short summer. This guy made my day so special, even though it wasn’t filled with home made brunch, chocolate or any typical Mother’s Day items. Even though we eat in the living room half the time our little eating nook still makes my heart happy. We’re tight on space in the kitchen, so we created this cute dining space between the spare bedroom door and fridge. You do what you gotta do, and it was nothing a practical @ikeacanada table couldn’t fix! Ikea has seriously saved our butts a few times in this place. Even though it takes an army to build I’ll forever be thankful for its practicality and price.
