Time to embrace my Hungarian upbringing and serve stuffed bell peppers. My nan used to make them a little differently, well ok a lot differently. But they are inspires by the original dish. (White peppers filled with minced meat in tomato sauce.) I filled mine with minced soy, red and yellow lentils and cheese on top. Accompanied by a fresh, very tasty quinoa salad filled with fresh herbs. And plated on these beautiful blue plates from @lecreusetse the dish really comes to life. Don’t you think? Those of you who follow me regularly know that I have been to Budapest quite a few times these past months. And while I love being there I miss coffee. ⁣ ⁣ Without offending anyone, good coffee is hard to come by. First meal in Budapest! Fried potatoes topped with more potatoes the fried potatoes had some kind of mouthwatering flavor to them... enjoyed my meal next to the river and with live music at this market! time for a nap now

Gerbeaud Szelet. First attempt at making the famous Gerbeaud Cake using the recipe from the 1978 Penguin book 'Hungarian Cookery' by Fred Macnicol. I didn't think the cake was photo worthy at first but when I managed to cut a half decent rectangular slice, well, here it is. The cake sponge is a yeasted dough with soured cream. Each layer is rolled flat like pastry then put into a large rectangular baking dish with a layer of apricot jam mixed with ground walnuts in between. The recipe states to top the cake with chocolate icing, which I did, and it was ok, but a ganache would have been better. Room for improvement but it still tasted bloody good! Kinda reminded me of Jaffa cakes but without the tang. #gerbeaudcake #hungarianfood #hungariancookery #gerbaudcake
