Time for a little tough love. The algorithm has not changed. So stop blaming it and your lack of understanding of it for your shitty content. And stop listening to girls who sell swimsuits tell you how IG works. . Asking people to comment if they see your content or saying, “IG is only showing 7% of my followers my content so type “Hey” if you see this…” is all BS. IG is showing your content to people that have shown they care about your content. If you have a bunch of fake followers or followers who just don’t find your content interesting, what’s that got to do with IG’s algorithm? . Now, there can be things that affect your posts BUT if you’re going to be out here giving “social media information” you should make sure you know the other factors that could make a post tank. Please don’t spread misinformation you have no clue about just because you’re salty. . If it does change, I will be sure to let y’all know. IG Algorithm Talk! Happy Friday night, guys!! Just wanted to chat and share my honest opinion about Instagram in this post. So I was freaking out a little bit about the algorithm changes because it really affects how you guys can/ can’t see my posts. My posts have hard time showing up on your feed and this is how I make a living. Showing up on your feed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You guys might not know that a lot of my friends and I who are content creators/ influencers, our success depends on your likes and comments. This shouldn’t happen to any of us as we all work so hard to come up with each collaboration to share with all of you. The behind the scenes of every posts are that we have to find brands, connect with them, negotiate deals, plan and create content, sometimes reshoot the content if the brand doesn’t like the first submission, post the content, talk to brand again and won’t get paid, sometimes 90 days later. That’s just for one post! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s all hard work, guys. Pretty much we can’t create content without YOUR support. Brands won’t work with us and we can’t create high quality content if we can’t show the brands that our followers are engaged. I got a comment on a really, really old photo that reminded me of the algorithm of the olden days before you had to pay for your posts to be seen by your followers. My posts used to reach over 50k people organically, and now they maybe reach 3k if I’m lucky *i know this because I get stats on all my posts by having a creator account* I also used to get hundreds of “likes” on a photo within an hour, now I can barely get 100 *check my last post lol* I’m not saying all this to complain or brag or anything like that, but just share my own experience with the algorithm because I see a lot of people getting super upset when their posts aren’t seen *lol I’ve been there too*. Trust me. It’s not you. It’s the shady algorithm. I feel like artists especially are hurt by the algorithm, at least I see a lot of us talking about it. And rightly so! So many of us run businesses online and when our posts aren’t seen our shops dry up. I’m worried about our mental health and how we view ourselves and our work. I know first hand how it can be a slap in the face when your engagement tanks, as silly as it even sounds to admit defeat from a fuckin app, but it’s the truth. I just wanted to say that it’s not you, it’s not your art, you are dope and so is your art. It’s Instagram <—— read that last part again. I’m bummed out every time someone feels like they aren’t good enough because a post didn’t get enough likes. ITS INSTAGRAM! NOT YOU I decided a while ago to spend less time online and more time drawing and being present. Regardless of how the app rewards me. Go make art. What if there is no IG algorithm and they are just telling us that? Wouldn’t it be so liberating to follow, like & post when we want to instead of feeling we have to feed and chase the elusive algorithm? Perhaps when they say “engage with your followers” they mean just that - by engaging with others, more people will want to engage with you. Doing that is a person’s choice. No algorithm can help with that. What about those who buy followers? I have been told this negatively affects the algorithm. Really? They still get to keep their exceedingly high number of fake followers. It doesn’t seem to affect them at all! So let’s pretend there is no algorithm and see what happens.
