Bonnie had a 6-in-1 #immunisation shot today and cried, which is a good sign with #preemies who can get quite defeatist over time in the #NICU. Anyone who has given birth to a silent baby knows how eerie it can be when they don't cry when you expect them to (and we've done it twice ). Imagine I started writing this about 5 hours ago but lil man was either feeding, burping or being changed! . . . So as you know today was our 8 week check and after you are given the all clear from the doctor you are then automatically seen by the nurse! . . . I asked the nurse reasons as to why baby boy should be immunised and her reasoning didn’t answer all my questions. I therefore decided to not give Mr King his injections and have booked another appointment in two weeks so I can continue my own research . . I know this is a very personal choice and on my last post there were some heartfelt comments. I want to reply to everyone but may take my time as I don’t want my answers to be rushed. I’m terrified of making the wrong decision but I am happy I didn’t rush into a decision today. . . So this morning was little mans 8 week check. I didn’t quite know what this entailed but in short it meant that he was weighed, reflexes were checked, hips were examined and measurements were completed. . . . Zion King is weighing on the heavier side for his age with no concerns and health care professionals were shocked that we are strictly breastfeeding and vegan as he is such a healthy weight! . . . I was also checked. Contraception was discussed and my c-section scar was examined and all is well . . I decided to not go on contraception as everything I ingest passes to baby! I am very conscious of man made medication especially as it has an affect on our natural cycle as women . . After our check with the doctor we are then automatically given an appointment in the next room with the nurse for immunisations . . Check out my next post to see if we decided to immunise him . . Immunization is the process whereby a person is made immune or resistant to an infectious disease, typically by the administration of a vaccine. Vaccines stimulate the body’s own immune system to protect the person against subsequent infection or disease. In layman's terms, a weak or dead version of the disease is introduced into the person's body in order to force the body into producing antibodies to fight of the infection and making the individual immune to future attacks by the diseases. You listen to to the news or a quick search online and you can quickly gather information on the problems that vaccines could cause in the future. ⁣ Some people decide not to give their baby these vaccines due to some of these reasons they’ve heard and others do a lot of their own research. I’ve sat with quite a few mothers, some friends and heard great points as to why they have or haven’t. ⁣ On the other hand most people, including myself opt to put their trust the medical system, don’t ask too many questions and go for them, I mean it’s what we are meant to do right?⁣ I did a little reading and questioned the particular BCG vaccine he was having as I got a leaflet along with the appointment saying that it wasn’t “licensed”. Further research I found many things are not licensed and actually don’t need to be. The truth is it can all be very complicated with all this information out there. It turns out, some of you know my kid better than I do - Lola was an absolute trooper and objected more to having to sit on my lap (“like a baby koala”) than the actual injections. Some tears from the shock, disgust at the unauthorised application of plasters (*not* a fan, even when they’re emblazoned with effigies of Peppa ) all sorted by a dip into Mummy’s Big Ol’ Box O’ Treats (not a euphemism).
